Job Responsibilities
As a Special Education Specialist at California Virtual Academies, you will be responsible for:
- Specialized Academic Instruction: Provide high-quality, specialized academic instruction to students with disabilities in a virtual setting.
- Case Management: Manage a caseload of students across various grade levels, including scheduling and holding IEP meetings.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues via video conference, teleconference, phone calls, email, and instant messaging.
- In-Person Participation: Participate in-person for state testing at a location near your residence.
- Technology Integration: Utilize technology to deliver instruction and support student learning in a virtual environment.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive support for students with disabilities.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Permanent California Residence: Must currently reside in Placer County, California.
- Education Specialist Instruction Credential: Valid/current Preliminary/Clear/Life California Education Specialist Instruction Credential in Mild/Moderate or the new Mild/Moderate Support Needs AND/OR Moderate/Severe Disabilities or the new Extensive Support Needs.
- English Learner Authorization: California English Learner Authorization issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
- Credential Copy and Supporting Documents: Provide a copy of your credential, English Learner Authorization, letter of introduction, and resume.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, ability to use technology in the classroom, and knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of online classroom platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience in Online Education: 0-3 years of experience in online education or special education.
- Experience with ELL Students: Experience working with English Language Learner (ELL) students in a virtual setting.
