About The Starting Place and Coarc
The Starting Place offers a nurturing environment for children aged 2.9 to 5 years, providing both preschool daycare services and comprehensive special education programs. As part of Coarc, we're proud to be the only full-service special education preschool in Columbia County. Our team includes master-level special education teachers, certified teacher assistants, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and clinical social workers, all working together to support the diverse needs of our students.
Key Responsibilities of the Center-Based Teacher
As a Center-Based Special Education Teacher at The Starting Place, you will play a pivotal role in designing, planning, and implementing classroom programs tailored to the individual needs of our preschool students. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and administering a curriculum that aligns with each child's Individual Education Plan (IEP) and the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) curriculum.
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of all children during classroom and program activities.
- Collaborating with parents, clinical staff, and other program staff to integrate clinical recommendations into each child's educational plan.
- Organizing field trips and outings that support the classroom curriculum and enhance the learning experience.
- Conducting screenings and annual assessments to inform educational goals and recommendations for each child.
- Consulting with parents and advising them on their child's progress through formal and informal meetings.
- Maintaining detailed records, including lesson plans, progress notes, attendance, and parent conference notes.
- Performing data collection and report writing to meet program requirements and Medicaid billing documentation.
- Coordinating the development of IEPs and providing consultation to program staff and clinicians on the overall educational program for each child.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Pre-K or Birth-Grade 2) or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- New York State Special Education Certification.
- A valid driver's license.
- The ability to obtain Pediatric First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
- Previous experience working with preschool special education children is highly valued.
