Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Counsel, Digital Products, Data Analytics to provide legal guidance and support to our Digital Products and Data Analytics teams. As a Senior Counsel, you will be responsible for delivering expert legal advice on various digital product and data analytics issues, negotiating and drafting complex contracts, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice and recommendations to leaders and management across various specialty units on issues of varying complexity that impact business activities and operations.
  • Demonstrate expertise in technology transactions, product counseling, intellectual property, marketing, security, and data protection laws, as well as the ability to be a generalist and quickly learn new areas of law and legal skills.
  • Structure and negotiate various business agreements in support of Walgreens' Digital and Information Analysis/Insights Organizations, including master services agreements, vendor contracts, data licensing/integration, and supply agreements.
  • Collaborate with teams across Walgreens' Digital Product and Data Analytics teams and external partners to develop, deliver, and operate technology for use by clients and patients.
  • Work cross-functionally with business, product, marketing, protection, security, and technology teams to bring our digital product and service offerings to market.
  • Understand Walgreens' digital product and service offerings, technology, security/data protection systems, and policies, and standard business and other agreements, to provide a foundation for delivering legal support throughout Walgreens' Digital teams.
  • Maintain an understanding of Walgreens' business, technology, and product goals, and challenges to establish and implement intellectual property portfolio strategies that align with those goals, capture investments in innovation, and limit legal risk.

Work Requirements

  • Utilize knowledge of legal specialty to provide advice as it builds its understanding of the business context in which it operates.
  • Review and prepare contractual documents for presentation to management for execution to ensure accurate articulation of the legal substance.
  • May receive specific direction from management or more senior law professionals regarding the results, process, and timelines expected.
  • Collaborate with the specialty units it serves to achieve corporate objectives and mitigate unnecessary business risk.
  • Research legal standards and precedents, engage and manage outside counsel, draft contractual documents, gather relevant case-related information using multiple sources and methods, provide work direction to other professional, paraprofessional, and care staff in developing solutions to problems presented.
  • Stay up-to-date with cash and familiarity with the legal and business trends that could affect those specialty units within Walgreens that it serves.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and at least 5 years of post-bar attorney work experience in a combination of law firm and corporate settings.
  • Required licensure to practice law in at least one state.
  • Required Illinois bar membership or active bar participation on favorable terms in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Experience utilizing time usage skills, such as prioritizing/organizing and following details and fulfilling time constraints of various projects with differing completion dates.
  • At least 5 years of involvement in contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of direct authority, indirect management, or potentially cross-functional team leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to act in a fast-paced environment where prioritization and capacity to work independently are a necessity for success.
