Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our team, working remotely on American Airlines data entry and cloud application development projects. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and supporting data engineering solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, product owners, and IT stakeholders, to develop and deploy scalable data pipelines, architectures, and tools that meet the evolving needs of our business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with source data application teams and product owners to design, implement, and support data engineering solutions that provide insights for better decision-making
  • Develop and deploy data migration and data engineering solutions using Azure products and services, such as Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Event Hub, and Azure Databricks
  • Perform various aspects of the development lifecycle, including design, cloud engineering, ingestion, preparation, data modeling, testing, CICD pipelines, performance tuning, and deployment
  • Provide technical leadership and collaborate within a team environment, as well as work independently, to drive the development of coding standards, best practices, and security guidelines
  • Mentor others on technical and domain skills to create multi-functional teams
  • Implement batch and streaming data pipelines using cloud technologies, such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Stream Analytics
  • Drive the improvement of coding standards, best practices, and security guidelines, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 3+ years of experience in software solution development using agile, DevOps, and cloud-based technologies, with a focus on data engineering and cloud application development
  • 3+ years of experience in data analysis using SQL, with expertise in data modeling, data warehousing, and data governance
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, C++, or equivalent, with experience in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash
  • Experience with Azure cloud technologies, including Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Functions, with knowledge of Azure security, networking, and compliance
  • Familiarity with data engineering tools and technologies, such as Apache Spark, Apache Hadoop, and NoSQL databases, with experience in data pipeline development and data architecture

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in full-stack development, with expertise in cloud-based technologies, such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, and experience in containerization using Docker and Kubernetes
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, with expertise in data pipeline development, data architecture, and data governance, and experience in data quality, data validation, and data certification
  • Experience with airline industry data systems and applications, with knowledge of aviation regulations and standards, such as IATA and FAA
  • Strong understanding of data security, compliance, and privacy regulations, such as GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA, with experience in implementing data security measures and ensuring data compliance
  • Certifications in Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, with experience in cloud security, cloud networking, and cloud compliance, and certifications in data engineering, data science, or related fields

  • Strong technical skills in data engineering, cloud computing, and software development, with expertise in programming languages, such as Python, Java, and C++
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data systems and develop creative solutions, and experience in troubleshooting and debugging data pipelines and applications
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, and experience in mentoring and leading teams
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality results, and experience in working in agile environments and using agile methodologies
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on ensuring data quality, accuracy, and compliance, and experience in implementing data quality measures and ensuring data compliance
