Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify. The Department of Education and Early Development is recruiting for an Education Specialist 2 in Juneau or Anchorage. This position is in the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) Anchorage - $3,144.75 biweekly pay Juneau - $3,302.25 biweekly pay What you will be doing: This position serves as the subject matter expert in The Educator Application & Certification Hub Alaska (TEACH AK) online teacher certification system and the Alaska Reads Act reading endorsement certification requirements for the certification team. This position will provide professional development and support in the implementation of both programs to teacher certification staff, districts, and educators. In addition, this position will support the Teacher Certification Team in meeting educator and district certification needs during high application times and when the certification team is backlogged on applications. As DEED continues to implement the Teacher Retention and Recruitment playbook, the Education Specialist 2 will also support key activities and programs as developed. As an Education Specialist for DEED, this position has the opportunity to work closely with districts and state education agencies to support best practice in teacher certification and assist the department in streamlining processes and providing effective, timely communication to partners. Our offices are conveniently located on the 9th floor of the State Office Building in downtown Juneau or the 8th floor of the Atwood Building in downtown Anchorage. The office is in a central location with plenty of parking, nearby restaurants, and coffee shops. Who we are looking for:Our ideal candidate will have the following: • Knowledge of State of Alaska educator certification requirements • Ability to present complex laws, regulations, rules, and processes to audiences with varying levels of understanding • Ability to read, understand, and interpret state and federal rules and regulations related to the Alaska Reads Act and educator certification • Experience with project management, including management of collaborative working groups • Experience providing training to adult learners. Experience providing training to teachers and district staff is preferred. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and four years of professional experience in education, one year of which was as a staff advisor/specialist, administrator, supervisor or consultant in planning, developing and maintaining standards and evaluating educational and vocational curricula or educational programs in a specialized field. Substitution: Appropriate graduate study may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the non-specialized experience to a maximum of two years. Special Note: Due to the duties assigned to a majority of these positions, applicants may be required to possess an Alaska Teacher Certificate at the time of employment and be required to maintain certification as a condition of employment. Specific endorsements may also be required. Documentation is included in the file of affected positions.
