The University of Arizona???s University Center for Assessment, Teaching, and Technology (UCATT) seeks an experienced leader who is passionate about the scholarship and application of teaching and learning and educational development. The Director of Teaching and Learning comes with a Professor of Practice (non-tenured) title. This position offers the opportunity to reimagine and create impactful programming that supports instructors, increases campus capacity for evidence-based approaches to teaching, and enhances our unit as a vital, trusted partner for teaching innovation.
The incumbent will develop, iterate, implement, and oversee educational-development programs and initiatives on topics related to evidence-based teaching, inclusive pedagogies, and integration of technologies to promote student engagement and learning. They will lead a team of seven faculty members who collaborate with units across our campus to promote departmental learning around discipline-specific teaching and learning.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Assess university teaching practices and design programs to enhance teaching and learning.
- Develop partnerships with campus units to deepen the focus on evidence-based teaching and course-assessment strategies.
- Collect and analyze participation trends to strategically enhance teaching and learning across the institution, sharing outcomes and impact.
- Supervise and mentor the faculty members on the Educational Development team to support UCATT???s mission and align with institutional values.
- Serve as a member of the Executive Committee for the College Teaching graduate interdisciplinary program and teach courses in the program.
- Support and enhance the use of peer observation of teaching and other types of evidence to document teaching effectiveness.
- Actively engage in scholarly and public interactions within higher education, teaching and learning, or other related disciplines, enhancing the reputation of the Center locally, nationally and globally.
- Strong collaborative leadership skills, including all perspectives in decision-making.
- Technology skills to support educational innovation and educational development.
- Demonstrated ability to design in-person, online, and hybrid curriculum using Universal Design for Learning principles.
- Ability to work effectively with academic professionals across the institution
- Knowledge of and ability to integrate ethical standards of educational development for formative feedback on teaching (for example, https://podnetwork.org/about/ethical-guidelines/)
- Ability to apply evaluative strategies for summative feedback on quality teaching and learning (for example, Quality Matters criteria applied in an online course review)
- Strong planning skills, vision, and creative intelligence.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
- Excellent listening, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to apply change-management and organizational-development strategies to promote unit and team function and well-being.
- Ability to support team members to gain perspective, identify goals, and monitor progress.
- Terminal degree in an academic discipline, or graduate degree with 5 years of extensive experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching in higher education using evidence-based instructional methods across a range of modalities, including online.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in educational development or relevant support of instructors in higher education.
- Documented evidence of technological expertise in an educational setting, or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position.
- Experience administering complex projects.
- Knowledge of and experience using evidence-based and equitable practices in college teaching, adult-learning principles, and effective course-based assessment strategies.
- Experience with curriculum development and design or instructional design.
- Administrative experience managing a team in a central teaching and learning unit at an institution of higher education.
- Experience managing faculty members, coordinating annual and promotion reviews.
- Experience writing grant proposals and administering grants.
- Record of scholarship in educational research, the scholarship of teaching and learning, or the scholarship of educational development.
- Experience administering budgets to support programming.
