Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is recruiting for Hospital Coders II who abstract and code complex inpatient charts for the Level I Trauma Center using International Coding of Diseases (ICD-10) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding classifications. Duties include reviewing charts and identifying procedures; abstracting and coding patient charts utilizing ICD-10 and CPT coding classifications; evaluating charts for completeness and accuracy in conformance with current standards and regulations; and contacting hospital staff to complete charts and/or clarify information for coding purposes. ARMC's Health Information Management Department offers exposure to complex cases, and ongoing monthly continuing education relating to industry standards updates.

ARROWHEAD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

ARMC, which is owned and operated by the County of San Bernardino, is a state-of-the-art 456 bed university-affiliated teaching medical center featuring the newest in technology in the field of patient care. ARMC is host to a 24-hour Emergency Department providing more than 90,000 annual visits, a Level I Trauma Center verified by the American College of Surgeons, a Regional Burn Center, Behavioral Health Services, Outpatient Specialty Clinics and four Primary Care Family Health Centers (FHC). The FHCs offer comprehensive primary care medical services to individuals and families of all age groups. The FHCs are staffed with experienced attending physicians and resident physicians from the Medical Center. ARMC is a Primary Stroke Center and has a Baby Friendly designation from Baby-Friendly USA with over 2800 births per year. The Neonatal Intensive Care is a 30 bed Community California Children's Services certified unit.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet both of the following, credentials -and- experience requirements:

Credentials:

Must possess and maintain one (1) of the following:

• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

AND

Experience: One (1) of the following options:

Option #1

Two (2) years of experience (within the past five (5) years) coding inpatient stays in a Level I or II Trauma Center utilizing ICD-10 (International Coding of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) coding classifications. Indicate the level on supplemental questionnaire.

Option #2

Three (3) years of experience (within the past five (5) years) coding inpatient stays in an acute care hospital utilizing ICD-10 (International Coding of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) coding classifications.

Note: Medical billing is not considered qualifying experience (i.e., experience billing for supplies and services related to routine patient visits such as charge codes or coding from encounter forms).

Desired Qualifications

Experience utilizing an automated encoder or abstracting system is highly desired.
