The School of Government & Public Policy (SGPP) in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) is seeking applications for a Program Coordinator (Student Services Admin Pro I) to serve the program needs in student outreach, engagement, and retention efforts in the school. SGPP is a large school with four undergraduate programs, three master???s programs, and a doctoral program. This position will provide administrative support to our staff and students in all four undergraduate programs, which operate on main campus and Arizona Online. The successful applicant will work well in a fast-paced environment, manage many initiatives/projects independently, maintain pro-active communication with internal and external partners, and demonstrate effective leadership and communication skills.

This position reports directly to the SGPP Assistant Director of Operations and Faculty Affairs and will coordinate regularly with the administrative, advising, and business staff that support undergraduate programs in SGPP as well as many partnering departments across the UArizona campus and Tucson community. The ideal candidate will have experience with student engagement initiatives on campus designed to foster a sense of belonging, as well as implementing success measures to encourage student persistence. This position requires technical competency, dedication to a team approach, personal accountability, accuracy, timeliness, and excellent communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Working with the SGPP undergraduate team, and in coordination with SBS, execute events related to outreach and engagement activities for current and future students, such as Admitted Students Day.
  • In collaboration with the SBS Marketing team and SBS Recruitment team, contribute to the development of student outreach and engagement materials.
  • Plan, execute, and participate in welcoming activities for new first year students and transfer students to our undergraduate majors. This will include summer welcome and in-person activities for students. Communicate with incoming students to foster an early sense of belonging, including informing them of welcoming activities.
  • In consultation with the SGPP undergraduate team, create and disseminate informational materials that will increase student engagement with, and use of, departmental and campus resources (especially SGPP financial opportunities).
  • Create and disseminate a weekly undergraduate newsletter via Mailchimp. Coordinate with undergraduate teams in the department, college, and campus-wide to integrate content.
  • Create opportunities for resource sharing with students, including classroom visits, information sessions, and resources like Trellis.
  • Create and execute tutoring opportunities for students in SGPP undergraduate degree programs.
  • Support SGPP Director of Undergraduate Studies as Arizona Course Equivalency Tracking System (ACETS) department representative.
  • Understand SGPP degree requirements and expectations to refer students to appropriate resources.
  • Maintain a high degree of knowledge of SGPP, SBS, and university-wide resources for students, including tutoring, DRC, career services, mental and physical wellness, etc. to refer students and disseminate information as appropriate.
  • Monitor and update daily the ???Change of Major??? during open periods. Facilitate the transition of new majors into SGPP.
  • Working with the SGPP undergraduate team, and in coordination with SBS, coordinate and execute outreach to SGPP at-risk students to evaluate their needs. This may include development of course and/or school-wide initiatives to mentor and tutor students in SGPP programs.
  • Working with the SGPP undergraduate team and SBS Student Success and Retention, use insights from available data reports to inform the development and implementation of SGPP strategies related to outreach, fostering belonging and connection to SGPP, and encouraging student persistence.
  • Communicate regularly with the SGPP undergraduate team regarding insights and characteristics of student populations and ongoing initiatives to foster student belonging and persistence.
  • Work collaboratively with SBS and various university departments relevant to student outreach and persistence, to include recruitment, data management, and student services (e.g., disability services, mental health, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain sustainable relationships and partnerships with new and existing external stakeholders to help establish strong links with the University for prospective students.
  • Actively participate in the SGPP undergraduate Team meetings and events.
  • Additional related duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals & organizations with a broad range of viewpoints and backgrounds
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 1 year of relevant work experience is required; OR,
  • 5 years of relevant work experience is required; OR,
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor???s degree in public admin, higher education, management, or related fields
  • 3 or more years of Higher Ed experience with undergraduate student programming.
  • Experience with UArizona's UAccess proprietary software and systems.
  • Experience with student engagement initiatives on campus designed to foster a sense of belonging, as well as implementing success measures to encourage student persistence.
