Summary/Objective



The City Teaching Alliance Faculty (CTA) Faculty Affairs Assistant is responsible for supporting and maintaining a high level of quality customer support to faculty and staff in the City Teaching Alliance program within the School of Education (SOE). The position provides administrative support for City Teaching Alliance Liaison and full-time, term, and adjunct faculty actions including appointments, reappointments, promotions, leaves, faculty awards, searches, teaching assignments, and faculty course loads, as well as administrative actions related to course development, approval, and curriculum matters. The position also provides general Office Management Support backup including overseeing the City Teaching Alliance office suite/reception area.



Essential Functions



Provides administrative support, calendar management support and student services for SOE?s City Teaching Alliance Liaison. Manages administrative tasks for City Teaching Alliance?s MAT Program to ensure the needs of the students, full-time and adjunct faculty, and staff are met.



Work with Program Liaison, MAP Program Director, associate dean, assistant dean, and external departments to complete promotion, hiring, appointments and reappointments for full-time and adjunct faculty.



In cooperation with City Teaching Alliance Liaison, Directors of Clinical Faculty, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Assistant Dean for Academic Administration, oversee and input the schedule of classes for CTA programs (online and ground).



Maintains confidential faculty and adjunct faculty data and reports data to City Teaching Alliance partners.



Other assigned tasks, including external projects (e.g., Advisory Board meetings, fundraising activities).



Supervisory Responsibility



  • This position reports to the SOE City Teaching Alliance Program Liaison.

  • No full-time employees report to this position; however, the incumbent may supervise work studies, graduate student assistants, and/or part time employees as necessary. Will work closely with all members of the Dean's direct and indirect staff. May represent SOE at certain school, departmental, or university meetings related to faculty affairs.

  • The nature of this position is to facilitate interaction between faculty and other units both within and outside the School of Education.

This is a union-eligible position.



Salary Range



  • $42,500/year minimum, commensurate with experience.

Required Education and Experience



Bachelor?s degree or equivalent in training or experience required.



Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary skills and abilities required for the job.



The position requires someone who is highly organized, energetic, self-motivated, requires minimal supervision, and demonstrates excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills.



Must be able to balance the needs of students and faculty with the tasks of the office.



This position works closely with highly confidential material.



Preferred Education and Experience



  • Candidate should possess excellent project management and computer skills including spreadsheet, database programs, and advanced word-processing skills.

  • Knowledge of Outlook and Datatel is desired.

This position is part of a collective bargaining unit represented by SEIU Local 500. That means the terms and conditions of your employment are governed by university policy (including the Staff Personnel Policies Manual) and any collective bargaining agreement entered into between American University and SEIU Local 500.
