Job description: Thomas McKean High School is seeking applicants for a teaching position for the Auto Tech program to begin Fall 2024. Responsibilities:
  • Teach concepts and skills in the automotive industry such as, but not limited to: engine rebuilding, tune up, lubrication, ignition, wheel/tire balancing, alignment, fuel systems, transmission/transaxles, chassis and body, electrical systems, brakes, suspension and steering, axles/drive axles/differentials, engine performance and emissions, air conditioning and heating, and other related automotive applications to secondary students.
  • Develop, plan, organize and maintain effective classroom management strategies in alignment with District and School Site policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Develop, implement and monitor safety policies and procedures for all automotive related activities, equipment and tools used in automotive repair trades; align safety policies and procedures with District and School Site policies and procedures.
  • Instruct and supervise students in the appropriate and safe use of all related tools and technology.
  • Develop and maintain an organized, orderly and clean classroom and automotive workshop.
  • Develop effective lesson plans that follow state approved Career Technical Education (CTE) standards and develop and demonstrate industry skills and concepts using frequent hands-on activities, models, teacher prepared instructional aids, supplies, technology, and lab experiences on and off campus.
  • Adapt the curriculum, materials and methods to develop sequential assignments that guide, challenge and meet the differentiated needs of the students.
Qualifications:

GENERAL STATE OF DELAWARE TEACHING LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor?s degree from a regionally accredited four-year institution. STS educators who do not hold a Bachelor?s degree may be qualified to enter the field with the equivalent of a Bachelor?s Degree as described below.
  • Passing score on a Content Knowledge Exam (i.e., Praxis II, ACTFL), as required.
  • Satisfy any additional licensure and certification requirements (i.e., additional coursework).
The following are the minimal requirements for the position STS in automotive technology.
  • National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence?s ASE Master Automobile Technician Certification
  • Education as prescribed below
  • Option#1:
  • Bachelor?s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in any content area. An addition of 15 credits; nine related to career or area of certification and 6 credits in pedagogy
  • Option#2
  • Associate?s Degree in any content area. 36 additional credits; 9 of those credits career related, 6 credits in pedagogy and 21 credits or their equivalent in professional development or technical training with at least one (1) course in each of the specified content areas
  • Option#3
  • Satisfactorily completed 2 years of College or Technical Training and additional education. Additional 51 credits; 9 Career Credits related to area of certification, 6 credits in pedagogy and 21 college credits or their equivalent in professional development or technical training with at least one (1) course in each of the specified content areas (15) non-duplicated college credits taken either as part of a degree program or in addition to it from a regionally accredited college or university, with at least one (1) course in each of the specified content areas
  • Six years of work experience in area related to automotive
