Reporting to the Klein College of Media and Communication?s Director of Academic Advising, the Academic Advisor II position works under limited guidance while advising a diverse population of students concerning an appropriate academic schedule, choice of major, number of hours that may be taken, probation, and/or dismissal. Creates a communication plan for interacting with students in the assigned caseload. Contact may be on an individual or group basis. This position may provide direction, guidance, and project supervision to less experienced staff, and manage other advising-related special projects. Works with faculty, staff, and students to disseminate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic policy, and other related issues as they arise. Meets regularly with assigned students to discuss academic and professional goals. Prepares and presents student orientation sessions and assists with course selection and registration activities. Participates in the new student Klein Rising program by teaching at least one new student seminar class per year. Assists in the coordination of Fly in 4, recruitment, retention, and at-risk student initiatives. Assists in clearing student records for graduation each semester. Maintains a working knowledge of student support areas across Temple such as tutoring, DRS, wellness, counseling, student life, etc., and develops an advising philosophy that supports student success. This role is highly collaborative and works with colleagues across the University to support student retention. Performs other related duties as assigned.



The Klein College of Media and Communication generates knowledge and educates students to be ethical, analytical and creative leaders in a multimedia and multicultural society. The Klein College Academic Advising office supports this mission and utilizes a caseload advising system following NACADA standards.



This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote). The duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the hiring department.

Required Education & Experience:



Master's degree and at least one and a half years of post-degree experience including at least six months advising experience in an academic setting in higher education. Demonstrated experience in program development and implementation.



Required Skills & Abilities:



*Demonstrated customer service skills along with the ability to effectively work with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.



*Excellent oral and written communication skills.



*Strong organizational skills as well as the ability to take initiative and work independently.



*Ability to work evenings and weekends occasionally.



*Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
