The Media and Communications department invites applicants for a Media and Communication Technologist to serve as the operator of the department?s Media and Communication Computer (Mac) Lab and Multimedia Recording Studio. This position serves an important role within the department helping to maintain and troubleshoot technology and equipment, assist faculty and students, supervise and train work study students; facilitate and integrate the teaching and educational exchange between students and faculty in the classroom; and advise the department of hardware and software needs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists Full time and Adjunct faculty with relevant courses in the Lab and Studio.
  • Provides technical assistance to faculty and students using specialized software and hardware including word processing and multimedia software, color printing, smartboard systems, iOS devices and specialized Video and Audio equipment.
  • Assists students with technical questions relating to computer hardware, video and audio equipment, peripherals and software related questions regarding specific coursework.
  • Orients new faculty and students to the MCO computer lab and multimedia recording studio.
  • Acts as a liaison between Media and Communication Department and Information Technology Services to insure proper assistance to the facility, such as maintaining Lab and Studio internet connections, systems upgrades, and equipment repairs or replacement. Makes specialized installers for Mac deployment of Adobe Creative Cloud in Lab, Studio and for Faculty.
  • Prepares Media and Communication Lab for University Registrations, Orientations, and specialized University testing as well as Non-Departmental institutes.
  • Maintains and insures functionality of Mac computers and iOS devices by researching and performing ordinary repairs, diagnostics and upgrades.
  • Deploys, loads and maintains software including word processing, desktop publishing, and multimedia packages to insure an effective class laboratory.
  • Maintains network of computers and oversees it?s proper operation on the SSU network.
  • Maintain the Multimedia recording labs inventory consisting of all A/V equipment. Lighting, interfaces, cameras, microphones
  • Schedules usage of computer lab in coordination with the Registrar?s office, CTI and Student Life to meet the needs of specific courses, registrations, orientations, institutes and university testing.
  • Conducts individual faculty tutoring with hardware, equipment and software.
  • Performs in-class software and hardware demonstrations for Graphics software, Multimedia software and Video and Audio equipment
  • Provides for the security of the lab and studio and related inventory.
  • Provides site supervision for work study students in the lab and studio.
  • May conduct discussion sessions for problems, questions, and mediation related to laboratory/studio course assignments.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the computer systems and general appearance of the lab and studio.
  • Makes recommendations for acquisitions for the Computer Lab, Multimedia Recording Studio, and department hardware, software, and equipment as needed.
  • Participates in professional development courses and stays informed about media and communication technological advances.
  • Participates in Media and Communication department meetings.
  • Assists in organization of advising schedules and information.
  • Serves as a role model and mentor for students as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to students, faculty and staff of varying racial ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • General knowledge of computers, iOS devices, word processing, multimedia, scanning software, lighting, audio production, video production and Smart classroom technology
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with knowledge of ordinary repairs and diagnostics of Macs, mobile devices and Audio and Video equipment
  • Knowledge of audio and visual production software packages including Adobe Creative Cloud, Audacity, iMovie, Adobe Rush, and Garageband. Some knowledge of PremierePro
  • Knowledge of current theory and best practices in the field of media and communication with regard to Multimedia software, hardware and peripherals
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office deployment and installation practices in context to a computer lab
  • Knowledge of Adobe Admin Console, and Adobe Remote Update Server (RUM)
  • Familiarity with audio/visual recording equipment (smartphone cameras, mics, lights, tripods, Tascam Mixcast 4, Apple computers)
  • Knowledge of file transfers, cloud storage, and software installations (and system requirements, and updates) for video, photography, and podcast editing (including Adobe CC, QuickTime, Audacity, and others)
Preferred Qualifications: * Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles
  • Ability to operate peripherals such as projectors, scanners, printers, lighting, audio interfaces, cameras, microphones, tripods, and to understand their interrelationships as well as understanding computer interfaced or related equipment
  • Ability to adapt activities to the changing needs of the technical laboratory
Working Conditions:

This is an on-site, in-person position.

Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 5-10 pounds.
