Job description: Job Overview/Summary:

The Youth Program Specialist is responsible for overseeing, supporting, and implementing all REACH (Refugee Education, Acculturation, Civic Engagement, and Health) Program components at Crawford High School. This includes after-school academic tutoring and support, and social emotional learning (SEL) programs. SEL Programs include weekly afterschool clubs, in-class programming in newcomer classrooms, acculturation field trips, and summer enrichment programs.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Outreach and recruit refugee youth to participate in various programing at Crawford High School;
  • Verify student eligibility and complete necessary intake and enrollment documents with clients;
  • Facilitate after-school tutoring sessions multiple days per week;
  • Develop and facilitate culturally appropriate and level appropriate Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum to engage students in learning and enrichment in after school on in-school day programing;
  • Serve as a liaison to key teachers and staff at school sites, district, and community partners;
  • Provide internal and external referrals for youth and families to support clients utilizing a holistic, trauma-informed approach;
  • Supervise volunteers and interns placed to support school- based activities;
  • Assess and monitor students? SEL gains by regularly administrating and evaluating funder prescribed or internal assessments;
  • Collect and track student data relating to the extent to which they are meeting grade level requirements;
  • Maintain student attendance records and create a monthly activities schedule for all REACH programs;
  • Support and contribute to monthly and quarterly funder reports;
  • Ensure all clients comply with the policies of the program and report client progress including collecting eligibility documentation;
  • Coordinate and run acculturation field trips for new arrival students;
  • Participate in weekly Team meetings to collaborate with colleagues;
  • Engage in community partner meetings to strengthen network of support for youth;
  • Use IRC and program database(s) as assigned to track client services, outcomes, and metrics;
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor?s Degree in the educational/social services field preferred.
  • Some college in the educational/social services field or equivalent years of related work experience required.
Work Experience:
  • Experience working with youth in a school setting strongly preferred;
  • Experience working with refugees, asylees, and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred;
  • Experience working in a diverse, and non-traditional setting with diverse client base;
  • Experience in a non-profit setting and/or international setting a plus;
  • Experience with online learning platforms including Zoom, Google Classroom and Drive a plus.
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make presentations and lead groups;
  • Ability to think and work independently;
  • Strong organizational skills to keep track of student records and adhere data monitoring and reporting deadlines;
  • Proficiency in a refugee and/or immigrant language such as Somali, Swahili, Arabic, Haitian Creole, Farsi a plus;
  • Must be very flexible, capable of working under pressure with deadlines and handling multiple priorities;
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multicultural environment;
  • Strong digital literacy skills, particularly in MS Office applications and experience with databases.
Working Environment:
  • Standard office environment, including the current hybrid mode of remote work within San Diego County and required in-office days, and frequent ?field? time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. Office working environment is subject to change based on organization/business need.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Office hours are designated from Monday to Friday, commencing at 8:30 am and concluding at 5:00 pm. However, it is acknowledged that after-school programming staff may necessitate slight adjustments to their schedules to effectively cover the entire duration of the program.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle to travel throughout the service delivery area with a valid driver's license and current insurance required.
