Position Summary:
Nurse Supervisor, SNF oversees a team of staff in the absence of the Nurse Manager or department Director and acts independently to provide crisis management, interpret policy, make timely decisions that directly impact patient care, ensures effective communication and collaboration among departments. Key responsibilities are administrative in nature and include assigning coverage and on-call schedules, patient assignments to nurses on the team, overseeing the key operational functions of the center including the development of standard operating procedures, data collection/management, staff education and orientation. This role will promote professional habits through work ethic, attitude and ability to work as a team member. The Nurse Supervisor, SNF is the administrative liaison to patients, families, health system employees, and external customers. The role requires direct patient care.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversees a team of LTC staff while ensuring they maintain the confidentiality and privacy of patients, as well as providing continual regulatory readiness for, CMS and AHCA. Ensures compliance with administrative and clinical policies, procedures, protocols and the service excellence mission of Jackson Health System. Obtains medications and supplies for patient care center as necessary. Acts as a resource and coordinates with various departments/hospitals center to facilitate patient transfer/admissions. Provides staff direction and/or assistance in problem-solving/customer complaints. Communicates via the chain of command. Participates in teaching and facilitating in-service education programs as appropriate. Serves as a professional role model and mentor to staff by responding positively to change while supporting colleagues through the change process. Serve as a change agent to facilitate communication and transition that supports the mission of the organization. Ensures staff maintain clinical competencies for assigned clinical area and are providing care as needed. Assess and evaluate staff's level of practice. Develops programs that foster continued clinical development from novice to expert. Serves as a resource to assigned nursing staff in the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to nursing knowledge. Develops and updates patient and staff educational material as needed. With leader oversight, evaluates the performance of direct reports focusing on results and developmental need and supports the organizations performance improvement program. Collaborates with leaders, educators, and preceptors to recruit and orient new employees overseeing a comprehensive unit base orientation. Functions as a role model to promote the Mission, Vision, philosophy, code of ethics and CARE values of the organization. Works with the Union Partnership to create staffing efficiencies and better quality outcomes. Continuous Improvement: Analyzes healthcare trends through nursing literature and suggests changes and improvement in patient care standards. Organizes data and problem solves with minimal supervision in a prompt, efficient manner. Supports the ongoing improvement of quality and performance metrics for nursing including, but not limited to core measures, hospital acquired infections, safety initiatives and the patient experience. Evidence by daily rounding of all patients in the unit to verify end ensure the highest nursing practice standards are applied, including compliance with handwashing of all staff on the nursing unit. Manages staffing on a regular basis. Follows and performs all related facility specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list. Utilizes job and facility specific equipment as required. Role models behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience:
Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience.

Education:
Associate's degree in related field is required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing is strongly preferred.

License Certification:
Current Florida RN license is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. Certification based on specialty is required, as needed.

Must have ability to clearly, accurately and effectively provide information to doctors, other nurses, patients, and family members. Must have ability to show compassion, patience and maintain non-judgmental approach to patients, their families as well as other employees and customers. Unit Specific: Must have clinical knowledge, skill and ability to fully and accurately complete all required unit competencies, as indicated in the unit competency check-list. Physical Demands:
Job function requires frequent sitting, standing or walking for extended period of time. Must be able to carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers. Work Environment:
Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations. Exposure to various environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment. May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.
