Overview of the role:
Customs Brokerage & Compliance Manager at CargoTrans will oversee the import and brokerage operations to ensure profitability. This individual will oversee a great team of brokerage professionals and will lend their expertise to further develop them.
The Day to Day
- Adhere to, train and advise team in areas of Customs Brokerage Regulations.
- Monitor team performance against company standards and department goals; regular audit of shipment documents and accounting.
- Monitor problem files and implement corrective action when needed.
- Issue work instructions (SOPs) to team members to ensure timely and orderly file flow including release, billing, and auditing.
- Evaluate processes and improve where necessary to increase efficiencies and improve performance.
- Monitor staff training needs; identify and develop training objectives.
- ACH Preparation-audit all ACH payments / authorize for payment to CBP.
- Conduct regular staff meetings; communicate department goals, expectations, and recognitions.
- Daily follow-up on documentation discrepancy issues.
- Escalate any unresolved issues or risks before they materially impact CargoTrans.
- Collaborate with other departments to deliver high level of service to customers.
- Train and assist other members of the team with filing ISF, filing entries, use of CW and CBP/OGA inquiries as applied toward entries.
- Educate customers about U.S. Customs and Other Government Agency (OGA) requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Licensed Customs House Broker.
- Proven analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Understanding of freight forwarding, customs entries, and industry knowledge.
- Excellent team-building, development and leadership skills.
- Good planning and organization skills; ability to multitask and be a self-starter working with minimal oversight.
- Ability to work with demanding deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
- Advanced understanding of USHTS and Customs Regulations.
- Has experience with CBP and OGA clearances for all commodities handled by the CHB department.
- Advanced knowledge of CargoWise CBP reports and the ability to use CargoWise to organize workload and maximize efficiency.
- Bachelor?s Degree / Minimum of 5 years? experience as an Entry Writer and people manager.
