Summary



CHS has an exciting opportunity to hire a Haz Gas Safety Specialist. We are looking for someone to provide technical support assistance on matters relating to safety and will be responsible for assisting with the monitoring of company safety programs, policies, and compliance with federal, state and local safety codes and regulations. You must be detail-oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.



This position is remote and requires 35%-45% travel. Candidates must be located in our trade territory (Minnestoa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Illinois, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas).



Responsibilities



  • Overseeing overall propane (retail) and anhydrous ammonia compliance programs through annual strategic plan, regularly update progress, lead various Country Operations Propane and Anhydrous Safety Committees, respond to emergencies as warranted

  • Work closely with operational leadership, EHS leadership, Legal and others within the organization along with outside agencies

  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for all CHS related propane and anhydrous ammonia issues: emergency response, training, code compliance, legal and risk, deposition expertise

  • Develop and ensure compliance of codes and programs through coordination of training and auditing of locations (physical assets and business processes) via Intelex, compile information from locations in the event of legal action.

  • Overseeing the inspection of new propane customer national accounts along with mergers and divestitures/acquisitions for propane and anhydrous ammonia locations.

  • Serve on the CO EHS Department???s emergency response team and coordinate all propane and anhydrous ammonia emergencies.

  • Manage Hazardous Gas Safety Technician(s) workload: Training, Auditing, Committee Work, Due Diligence, Expenses, Performance Reviews, Due Diligence & other duties/responsibilities as assigned

  • Apply subject matter expertise in coordination of compliance with all applicable Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) related requirements (federal, state, local, and company).

  • Provide work direction to more junior team members.

  • Develop and implement of EH&S related plans, programs, policies, and procedures.

  • Conduct effective EH&S related training for employees, contractors, and visitors.

  • Conduct most complex EH&S related audits, workplace inspections, job safety analysis, and maintain detailed recordkeeping.

  • Provide first aid for minor injuries and coordinate prompt medical attention for more serious injuries.

  • Conduct most complex accident investigations, manage worker???s compensation process, and return to work program.

  • Communicate EH&S related requirements and expectations to other departments and personnel to ensure regulatory compliance and a safe work environment.

  • Properly respond to day-to-day EH&S related issues in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Keep current on all applicable EH&S related rules and regulations.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (required)



  • High School diploma or GED

  • 7+ years of experience in Environmental, Health, and/or Safety

Additional Qualifications



  • Agriculture background, facility operation, and management experience

  • Subject matter expertise in construction practices and principles, and inventory management process

  • Ability to complete OSHA 30 hour construction training certification program

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Occupational Health, Environmental Health and Safety, or related field

  • Pre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position. If required, selected candidates must pass pre-employment screenings to include all or a combination of drug, criminal, motor vehicle check, physical requirements and FMSCA Clearinghouse

  • CETP Basic Certification

  • Direct supervision experience

Physical Requirements



  • Ability to climb ladders and operate equipment needed for facilities inspection

  • Ability to work in dusty and adverse and changeable weather conditions
