Job Description

Responsible for Nuclear Engineering activities that support:
  • GE's existing fleet of BWRs and/or
  • GE?s BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and/or
  • Gen-IV reactor technologies including Natrium and ARC sodium fast reactors (SFRs).
Roles and Responsibilities

Reload Design & Analysis ? Responsible for the performing nuclear fuel bundle and core design, reload licensing, cycle management, core monitoring databank preparation, and associated technical support for Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plants operating with GNF fuel.

Analytical Methods Technology (AMT) - Responsible for the development, maintenance, analytics, technical consultation, and licensing stewardship of engineering computer codes, correlations, and methodologies related to Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs) and advanced/fast reactors. AMT is also responsible for supporting customers with emergent questions in the areas of reactor neutronics/thermal-hydraulics, heat transfer, two-phase flow, and instrumentation physics, and contributes to the nuclear and thermal-hydraulic design of new fuel products with this knowledge and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

LOCA, Containment, and Stability Analysis ? Responsible for performing thermal hydraulic analysis for plant thermal-hydraulic stability, plant noise, PRNM stability interface, and other nuclear safety analyses supporting applications for Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plants.

Radiological Analysis ? Responsible for performing, verifying, and mentoring engineering work in the areas of radiation/dose assessment (shielding and criticality), fluence, reactivity control/reactivity insertion analysis, control rod blade design, and decay heat analyses.

Transient Analysis ? Responsible a variety of projects including technical evaluations and analyses in the area of Anticipated Operational Occurrences, Anticipated Transients without Scram, Reactor Heat Balance, and Thermal Hydraulic Fuel Channel Analyses.
  • Demonstrates accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership, oversee project scheduling and resource planning, develop talent through mentorship, and act as the point-of-contact between your engineering team and both internal and external customers.
  • Deliver products at a consistently high and sustainable level in accordance with customer requirements, business procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and teamwork skills as they will be required to interface with a variety of individuals with diverse backgrounds.
  • Work within an approved regulatory framework for nuclear software quality assurance for engineering computer programs.
  • Prepare, document and present technical data to internal and external customers.
  • Lead team process improvements to drive speed and simplification.
  • Ensure work is performed with high quality in accordance with NRC rules and regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards.
  • Drive a team culture based on teamwork, integrity, candor, transparency, and execution on commitments.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate activities with other team members on engineering/technical issues.
  • Support the interface with various regulatory agencies (NRC, DOE, etc.) as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor?s degree from an accredited university or college in nuclear engineering, physics, computational methods or a closely related technical discipline AND 8 years of experience specializing in one of the following areas: Reload Design & Analysis, Thermal Hydraulic Methods, Neutronics Methods, LOCA, Containment, and Stability Analysis, Radiological Analysis, or Transient Analysis.
  • OR
  • Master?s degree from an accredited university or college in nuclear engineering, physics, computational methods or a closely related technical discipline AND Minimum of 6 years of experience specializing in one of the following areas: Reload Design & Analysis, Thermal Hydraulic Methods, Neutronics Methods, LOCA, Containment, and Stability Analysis, Radiological Analysis, or Transient Analysis.
  • OR
  • Ph.D. from an accredited university or college in nuclear engineering, physics, computational methods or a closely related technical discipline AND Minimum of 5 years of experience specializing in one of the following areas: Reload Design & Analysis, Thermal Hydraulic Methods, Neutronics Methods, LOCA, Containment, and Stability Analysis, Radiological Analysis, or Transient Analysis.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Relocation to Wilmington, NC is strongly desired. Relocation assistance is provided.
  • Prior experience with BWR technology.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear reactor core licensing, technical specifications, safety margin bases, code methodology licensing, and related federal regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on the best available information.
  • Exceptional organization skills.
  • Legacy of delivering on commitments; tenacious, with a proven track record of overcoming obstacles; ability to achieve stretch targets.

Reload Design & Analysis ?
  • Experience with BWR core simulator and use of 3-Dimensional neutron kinetics codes
  • Experience performing technical evaluations and providing technical support in the areas of nuclear fuel bundle and core design, reload licensing, cycle management, and core monitoring databanks.
  • Knowledge of USNRC licensing requirements
  • Knowledge of US utility outage planning processes
Analytical Methods Technology (AMT) ?
  • Experience with nuclear thermal-hydraulic physics, methods, and codes (TRAC, RELAP, COBRA, ANSYS-FLUENT), including development of related codes and tools.
  • Experience with deterministic and stochastic neutron transport physics, methods, and codes (TGBLA/PANAC, CASMO/SIMULATE, MCNP), including development of related codes and tools.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear reactor core licensing, technical specifications, safety margin bases, code methodology licensing, and related federal regulations.
LOCA, Containment, and Stability Analysis ?
  • Experience in ECCS LOCA, Containment, HELB, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and Reactor Internals Pressure Difference analyses.
  • Experience in BWR ECCS LOCA analysis to support applicable regulatory requirements
  • Experience with T/H systems codes such as TRACG, TRACE, RELAP, or RETRAN
  • Experience in Best Estimate methodology development (e.g., TRACG LOCA/Containment)
  • Experience with Best Estimate and CSAU applications.
  • Knowledge of reactor licensing requirements; Experience with 10 CFR 50.46
Radiological Analysis ?
  • Experience with BWR simulator and use of 3-Dimensional neutron kinetics code (e.g., PANAC, PARCS).
  • Experience in reactivity control such as reactivity insertion accident, rod withdrawal error, control rod drop accident analyses.
  • Experience with MCNP, SCALE, KENO, ORIGN, RADTRAD, GALE, and/or coupled Monte-Carlo/deterministic radiation transport methods.
  • Experience with BWR/PWR system codes such as TRACG, RELAP, TRACE and/or equivalent safety analysis system codes.
Transient Analysis ?
  • Deep technical knowledge of BWR systems and integrated plant response.
  • Commercial application experience with BWR core simulation and thermal-hydraulic system analysis codes (e.g. ODYN, TRAC, RETRAN-3D, RELAP).
  • Fundamental knowledge of fast reactor systems and analysis.
  • Experience with thermal-hydraulic transient analysis of liquid-metal-cooled nuclear reactors.
The salary range for this position is $108k-165k. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate?s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
