The Senior Surety Underwriting Specialist will operate with limited supervision in both underwriting and marketing capacities. Work within one's general expertise and authority levels to manage an existing portfolio of accounts and partner with key agencies to develop new business opportunities. Manage assigned book of business, generally with moderate to high technical complexity and scope. Contribute to region and business unit goals. Candidates with greater experience and capabilities will be considered for a Senior Underwriting level/position.



This is a full-time/exempt role.



IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:


  • Responsible for efficiently identifying, soliciting, and underwriting new and renewal Contract Surety accounts that drive profitable growth and managing relationships with key partners in the agency plant.

  • Proficiently manage agency, broker and account meetings and general workflow.

  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of Hanover's Surety strategies and appetite and will use internal and external data to make appropriate individual and portfolio risk decisions.

  • Efficiently coordinate with internal and external resources on moderately complex risks.

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:



  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.

  • AFSB Designation Preferred.

  • Generally, 5-10 years Contract Surety underwriting experience.

  • 5+ years' experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business as well as complex accounts.

  • Command of fundamental underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Very strong communication skills including the ability to communicate difficult or technical decisions or comments with confidence and precision.

  • Demonstrates ability to adapt quickly to change, identify, analyze, and solve problems and willingness to being open to new and different ways of thinking.
