Job Summary



The Project Manager's primary function is to plan, lead, and manage medical device programs, utilizing multi-disciplined product development teams. Projects span portions of or the entire development life-cycle, from concept/feasibility, to detailed design and verification, and on to manufacturing transition and launch, as well as post launch support. The Project Manager is accountable to lead the overall program planning, staffing, project execution, cost control, risk management, and primary client relationship duties. The Project Manager has significant autonomy in project execution, working under the oversight of the Medical Device Leadership team for that particular project.



Responsibilities



  • Lead proposal efforts, in collaboration with internal team and client, to define an overall approach, schedule, and cost that represents an acceptable benefit to the client - both commercial and government.

  • Facilitate detailed project planning, including all elements of scope, cost, schedule, risk and technical performance deliverables, to fully define the project through completion.

  • Conduct project activities within the framework of the group's ISO 13485 Quality System and applicable government and industry regulations

  • Manage internal team project performance by proactively balancing the triple-constraint of scope, cost, and schedule, leading to a successful conclusion.

  • Serve as the primary client contact throughout the project execution, providing periodic assessments of project performance against plan, raising and executing needed risk mitigations.

  • Work with our clients to identify additional opportunities for support through extension of current work or introduction to additional Battelle capabilities to meet their needs.

  • Stay abreast of Project Management best practices and share key learnings with project management and project team staff.

  • Mentor project staff to encourage a high performing, continual improvement culture.

Key Qualifications



  • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills

  • Program Management experience working with the Department of Defense or its agencies (ARL, AFRL, NRL, DARPA, DHA,etc.)

  • Prior experience working within either Medical Device or Medical/Health industry.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and project management skills with ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external counterparts.

  • Mindset for teaching and guiding senior staff in developing task leadership skill sets, mentoring of junior and entry level staff in product development processes.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Life Sciences plus 7 years' experience in managing programs in the life sciences field; or equivalent combination of education and experience, or a; A Master's Degree in Engineering, Life Sciences or a business management field from an accredited institution or other relevant field and 3+ yrs experience in managing programs in the life sciences field.

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, Project, Excel, and other standard programs for project, business and financial management.

  • Requires ability to obtain and maintain a US government clearance.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Preferred Qualifications



  • 3+ years experience managing programs in the life sciences field for the Department of Defense or its agencies

  • Management of government contracts such as IDIQ and OTA

  • DFARS 252.204-7012 Safeguarding Covered Defense Information and Cyber Incident Reporting

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

  • Experience using Earned Value Management for project performance tracking and reporting

  • Experience working within medical device development Quality Systems. (ISO 13485, 90001,etc)

  • Experience across the medical device development continuum, from concept development activities through product launch.

Location: May be remote Virginia/DC or Maryland areas, or Columbus, Ohio with approximate 10% travel.
