The Merrill-Cazier Library at Utah State University seeks a dynamic, innovative and service-oriented candidate for the position of Online Learning Librarian. The Online Learning Librarian provides leadership and support on the design, implementation, accessibility, and assessment of creative and inclusive e-learning materials, including videos, tutorials, and course modules. Fulfilling the goals of the land-grant institution, this position works with the statewide campus librarian and others to support students across the system. The candidate also serves as a liaison to academic departments as needed.

Reporting to the head of Learning & Engagement Services, this position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment as an Assistant Librarian. The position is open fall 2023 and the start date is negotiable.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the core public services functions of teaching, learning, outreach, engagement, and instructional assessment.
  • Facilitate the use of library instructional materials in the Course Management System (Canvas) and other online environments, providing a positive user experience and ensuring compliance with ADA guidelines and University standards.
  • Contribute to digital accessibility efforts for the library?s online presence, including digital learning objects.
  • Liaise with other campus offices supporting instruction, learning initiatives, and accessibility, especially the Center for Instructional Design and Innovation and Statewide Campuses.
  • Oversee maintenance of online materials in collaboration with teaching assistants and undergraduate and graduate students to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Collaborate with staff across the library to support online learning initiatives and best practices for online teaching. Creating and maintaining a culture of teamwork and collaboration externally and internally is critical to our continued success.
  • Work closely with others to assess online library instruction, including integration with English composition and disciplinary courses.
  • Collect, share, and use assessment data to prioritize future creation projects and identify other priority areas in online learning.
  • Serve as a liaison librarian.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities relevant to the needs of the position.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • ALA-accredited MLS, or equivalent degree, by start date. An appointment as affiliate librarian will be considered for those who will complete this degree requirement by December 2023.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to explain complex concepts to a wide variety of users in individual and group settings.
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in pedagogy for e-learning and distance education.
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies to support classroom and remote or asynchronous instruction.
  • Ability to collaborate, maintaining collegial working relationships with administrators, staff, and faculty.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills with a willingness to be flexible and experiment with new methods and technologies.
  • Ability to meet the university's requirements for tenure, including excellence in librarianship and effective scholarly output and service to the university and profession.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of Univeral Design for Learning related to online learning
  • Understanding of issues related to developing and assessing learning modules and delivering and assessing online library instruction.
  • Experience creating video tutorials using video editing software such as Adobe Premiere, Camtasia, iMovie, etc.
  • Working knowledge of learning management systems such as Canvas.
  • Some knowledge of accessibility standards for ADA compliance for online learning.
  • Project management experience.
Salary is $55,000, plus excellent benefits including a 14.2% (starting at $7,810) annual retirement contribution. Utah State University offers a competitive benefits package which includes medical and dental, and 22 days/year vacation.
