is a not-for-profit global convener of dialogue on the most significant issues of the day through engagement across four pillars of the arts, education, religion, and recreation. The Chautauqua community is located on the shores of Chautauqua Lake in southwestern New York State and comes alive each summer with a unique mix of visual and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship/programs, and recreational activities. The Institution has just recently passed a strategic plan ( ) that endeavors to expand its reach to year-round programming and to harness its brand for continuous impact in learning and education. A new Washington, DC, office has opened to allow the Institution to play an ongoing role in the cultural conversations of the nation.



Summary



This position will serve as teaching artist in the Chautauqua Arts Education School Residencies program and coordinate scheduling and communications with schools, specific to each Arts Education program. This person will be trained in the ?Feelin? the Beat? drumming & social-emotional learning and/or the ?Sing Me a Story? ELA & music education curriculum. This person will also serve as coordinator for scheduling, communications with schools and serve as educational liaison for all Arts Education programming. The CI Arts Education programs serve over 20 school districts in Chautauqua County, reaching thousands of students over the course of the school year. This position will be trained by and report to the Director of Arts Education.



This position is funded for one year, with the hopes of obtaining financial support to continue.



Responsibilities


  • Resident Teaching Artist



  • During paid training period, attend all training sessions and apprentice teaching sessions

  • Collaborate with Director of Arts Education to assess student needs and abilities to establish learning and artistic objectives for each residency

  • Collaborate with Director of Arts Education to develop lesson plans based on established curriculum to meet stated objectives

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress towards objectives and adapt curriculum & lesson planning as needed

  • Document informal and formal assessments

  • Communicate with school administration and faculty

  • Arts Education Project Coordinator



  • For each Arts Education program, collaborate with school contacts and teaching artist teams to create program-specific schedules for each school

  • Serve as Educational Liaison between teaching artist teams and school personnel

  • Serve as event coordinator for field trips during the school year and during the Summer Assembly Season

  • Coordinate scheduling for educational programming in the arts

  • Document programming via video & photo, social media campaign coordination with Institution social media staff

Education and Experience



Required education: Associate?s Degree or higher



Preferred education: Bachelor?s degree in Music Education, Music, Education or Special Education



Required experience:

  • K-12 Education and/or

  • Music

  • Experience working and interacting with people with disabilities (cognitive, physical, emotional, communication disorders, developmental challenges, etc.)

Schedule and Travel



Most Arts Education programming, including the School Residency program, is conducted on-site, in public and private schools mostly in Chautauqua County, New York. The teaching schedule varies, dependent on school need, varying from 3-6 hours per school, not including travel time. This position may be asked to teach in multiple schools per week or day, as schedule allows. This position will be expected to be able to travel and transport teaching equipment (drums) to the school locations.

Supervision and Guidance



Teaching Artists will be trained and supported by the Director of Arts Education. Program implementation and development will be coordinated in collaboration between the Teaching Artist and the Director of Arts Education.
