Job title: First/Second Grade Teaching Assistant

Job description: Job Goal: To assist the classroom teacher in achieving the academic standards and behavioral objectives designed by the teacher through working with students to help them obtain success at their academic level and to assist in general classroom activities.

Instructional Duties:

Implement teacher lesson plans

Administer assessment tools

Assess progress

Evaluate students? work and correct papers

Provide individual and group instruction to students for re-teaching

Work individually with special needs students and those with special accommodations

Assist in creating a Nature Based learning environment

Substitute for classroom teacher if a substitute teacher is not available

Team teach a split grade classroom

Assist students with technology

Distribute and collect materials, and set up for instruction

Assist with classroom discipline

Guide independent study

Assist with large group activities, i.e. drill work, reading aloud, telling stories

Read with students and listen to them read

Assist in maintaining individual student records

Participate in professional development activities and training regarding Nature Based learning and other topics

Attend workshops as appropriate to update job skill level

Operate equipment, show movies, make copies, etc.

Other duties as assigned by the teacher and approved by the administrator

Non-Instructional Duties:
  • Safety duty before and after school
  • Maintain student discipline at school and on field trips
  • Playground supervision
  • Assist students with putting on coats, etc
  • Clean up spills and bathroom accidents
  • Assist in keeping classroom neat, clean, and orderly
  • Alert teacher to any problems or special information about individual students
  • Handling first-aide and medical needs of students
  • Assist with student supervision during emergency drills and assemblies
  • Assist with bulletin boards and classroom appearance
  • Assist with lunch, snack, and clean-up routines
  • Maintains high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
  • Other duties as assigned by the teacher and approved by the administrator
Reports to: Teacher and Administrator

Evaluated by: Administrator with teacher input

Qualifications: Must have an Associate?s degree minimally;

Must be able to provide and maintain an orderly and safe learning environment;

Must be able to physically move about the classroom and playground in order to attend to students;

Must be able to lift 30 pounds;
