Position Overview

Community Schools align resources in a school building with vision and purpose, resulting in improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities. This model is a holistic approach to improving academic performance driven by strong, collaborative partnerships among principals, parents, teachers and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs). In Community Schools, parents are active partners in their children?s education, the school climate is joyful and positive, and expanded learning opportunities are abundant.

Core outcomes are two-fold. At the student-level, Community Schools aim for increased attendance and student engagement; connectedness to adults; development of social and emotional skills; and improved academic performance. At the school-level, Community Schools aim for improved school culture; more actively engaged families; and seamless service delivery with partner organizations.

Reporting to the School Partnerships Director (SPD), the Portfolio Program Manager (PPM) position is a support role meant to enable our Community School Directors (CSDs) to supervise AmeriCorps Members (ACMs) and implement the Whole School Whole Child (WSWC) and Community School (CS) models in the schools we get to partner with. The PPM will support a portfolio of 4-5 schools managed by one SPD. The PPM will provide direct support to ACMs by providing quarterly 1:1 Life After City Year (LACY) planning sessions to ensure our ACMs have a plan for their next steps after serving with City Year, observing and coaching each ACM in their service delivery on a monthly basis and facilitating monthly data review meetings to ensure our ACMs are able to make meaningful adjustments to best support our students. The PPM will work with the CSD, Instructional Coach (IC) and SPD to provide additional professional development or meaning making spaces for the team to be as effective as possible in their school-based service. In the event there is a CSD vacancy, the PPM will serve as the ACM team?s direct on-site manager.
