Develop and maintain a peer relationship focused on helping new students make a smooth transition, acclimate to campus, and establish a sense of belonging. Applicant must be a Utah State University Blanding enrolled student. This Peer Mentor position is in Monument Valley.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a peer relationship focused on helping new students make a smooth transition, acclimate to campus, and establish a sense of belonging.
- Assess assigned students? needs and develop an individual plan to provide personalized support, monitor, and assess student progress toward short-term and long-term goals.
- Utilize the Student Support System to plan and report academic quality interventions.
- Maintain communication with the course instructor, provide feedback and assist in the communication between students and instructors.
- Utilize Meta-cognition skills to plan and effectively facilitate students? learning process.
- Post-session plans, worksheets, or other materials, and required reflections on the Student Support System.
- Become a source of encouragement and support to students with academic difficulty and risk of failure as identified in the Early Alert Report System.
- Work with NASNTI Director and the Director of Programs to identify resources to help students enhance personal development and career growth.
- Be a Utah State University Blanding enrolled student
- Have a solid academic background in Math, Science, and/or English with a minimum 3.0 GPA (cumulative)
- Have good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Be available to tutor after school hours and some evenings.
- Be friendly, patient, and sensitive to a diversity of students.
- Have access to reliable transportation to and from the tutoring site.
- Conversant in Navajo language and culture.
