Job Summary/Basic Function



The Department of Foreign Languages seeks qualified students to work as foreign language assistants in our tutoring space in Elizabeth Hall, room 244. Preference will be given to students who are pursuing a major or minor in the language of study. Foreign language assistants will tutor and help students with coursework and conversation, and will serve as a general resource for the needs of language students.

All students hired as foreign language assistants must be available at least 3 to 6 hours per week sometime between 8am and 4pm. Some tutoring sessions may be conducted virtually.

Required Qualifications



1) Must be enrolled in WSU during the semester in which the student is hired.

2) Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and a grade of B+ or higher in all upper-division language classes.

3) Must be at the Advanced Low level on the ACTFL scale in the target language; the department faculty will judge proficiency after application.

4) Must enroll in EDUC 2920 B and complete the course during the first semester of hiring.

Preferred Qualifications



a) Preference will be given to students who are pursuing a major or minor in the language of study.

b) Preference will be given to students who have some experience teaching or tutoring foreign languages.
