The Senior Student Success Specialist is a student-focused professional who helps maintain, strengthen, and expand University of Arizona Online, Distance, and Continuing Education (ODCE) programming in Yuma, Imperial, and LaPaz Counties. As a Student Success Specialist, this position guides individual and cohorts of students in a high-contact student coaching and advising environment. The Specialist utilizes best practices in the field of student success by facilitating structured sessions and providing student-led discussions on goal setting, academic life balance, finances, study strategies, workforce/career conversations and directing students to supportive programs and services institution wide with a focus on developing local opportunities for engaged learning and growth. As a part of the student-specialist relationship, the Student Success Specialist provides advising, financial aid support, and career development for current and prospective students. Occasional travel within the region is required.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Success Coaching & Advising:
  • Connect students to, or provide, developmentally and situationally appropriate support services and follow up on outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships with students by focusing on student driven development and growth.
  • Using data informed proactive outreach, create continuous and systematic improvements to the individualized student experience.
  • Provide financial aid support to students, guiding them through funding opportunities and assisting them with completion of requirements to ensure retention.
  • Develop and implement student success and outreach plans that utilize proactive strategies to re-engage students who need additional support.
  • Develop campus relationships with partner departments and colleges to ensure developmentally appropriate student support and advising services for distance campus students.
  • Provide regular and year-end reports to Distance leadership and appropriate academic and central departments.
  • Monitor academic progress of students by analyzing progress reports from learning management system/self-reported measures, determining eligibility and satisfactory progress toward degree, identifying current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g., study skills, tutoring), and referring students to appropriate campus resources for assistance.
  • Interpret and advise on department, college, and university policies and procedures to students.
  • Coordinate with faculty and college advising directors on student progression, course schedules, and transfer evaluations.
  • Collaborate and maintain communications with academic advising and student success teams to stay current with admissions, financial aid, and advising policies and procedures and provide consistent services.
  • Work with the program operations team to develop and facilitate videos/webinars and other communications for regional prospects and students using various multimedia.
  • Create and maintain a University of Arizona Yuma student culture by planning events for students and creating opportunities for students to explore the local community.
  • Partner with non-profits and companies to provide students with local resources and services based on specific needs.

  • Enrollment Management:
  • Provide information to clientele for University of Arizona Online, Distance, and Continuing Education programs, including 2+2 programs, transfer articulation, distance education modalities, joint enrollment with community colleges, higher education costs, financial aid and scholarship opportunities, credit outreach courses, and specific degree programs.
  • Maintain and monitor student data to track enrollment, retention, and graduation.
  • Support the region recruitment professionals and enrollment counselors with events such as open houses, orientations, information sessions, tours, community outreach, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree AND 3 years of related experience OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
  • Position requires occasional travel for work and driving of personal and university vehicles.
  • Ability to drive according to the University

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish-English.
  • Experience in university or community college student support services and/or advising.
  • Experience developing and implementing student success programs for adult learners.
  • Experience using call dialing technology.
