JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Scranton is seeking a full-time staff member to serve as a Disability and Learning Services Specialist. The Disability and Learning Services Specialist reports directly to the Associate Director of Learning and Disability Services within the Department of Academic Affairs. This position supports specialized populations and assists students to fully engage in the learning process and in acclimation into the Penn State Community. This position has the potential of being Hybrid work.

The purpose of this position is to assist in the coordination of learning assistance programs for all students with a special focus on disability services. The Penn State Scranton Learning and Writing Center oversees the campus?s peer, faculty, and professional tutoring services, and academic skills development programs and serves as a primary point of contact for disability services.

Job Responsibilities:

Assist with programming aimed at supporting student success rates

Plan and evaluate programs and services

Provide academic counseling services to students on academic success skills and the transition to college

Provide services for students with disabilities such as facilitating the accommodation process, mentoring students, interacting with the campus as a resource, and providing programs on disability awareness

Assist in the oversight of tutoring services by peers, faculty, and professional staff including involvement in the recruitment of tutors and oversight of the tutoring schedule

Implement social and educational programming to aid in student transitions including summer sessions

Typical Education & Experience:

Candidates are expected to hold a master?s degree or higher in a counseling, human services, or education-related field, and typical candidates will demonstrate one to three years of related experience in counseling or education (higher education preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience

A demonstrated ability to work with faculty, staff, and students and manage assigned projects is essential

The successful candidate should have the ability to multi-task and demonstrate a proven record of working effectively in a team environment

Competencies critical to success are problem-solving, professionalism, flexibility, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint is required and experience working with Canvas (or other learning management systems), and student information systems is beneficial to success in the position
