Full-time, reports to Heidi Pries Associate Dean of Students, Grand View University
Position Title: AmeriCorps College Success Coach
Start Date: Sept. 18
Anticipated Service Schedule:
The member will complete service hours between [8 am-5:00 pm], [Monday - Friday], with some nights and weekends as needed.
The member should expect to serve 40 hours/week to complete their term of service.
Service Activities:
Connect students with campus and community based resources for any specific questions or concerns they are experiencing, including academic tutoring, financial aid, mental health, disability services, etc.
Update supervisor on students' progress and identify themes or common questions to identify future interventions and resource development
Meet with AmeriCorps Part time members regularly (weekly or biweekly) to discuss how their assigned students are doing with academic and personal goals
Work with AmeriCorps Part time members to identify common themes or questions from their conversations with students
Advise student organizations such as First Generation Vikings and Viking Volunteers
Connect with site supervisor to devise a strategy for future interventions and further resource development on campus
The College Success Coach will be responsible for developing relationships with first year students. The target population consists of first year students that are low-income, first generation, and/or a student of color.
The College Success Coach will be supporting the program goals of retention and graduation rates for first gen, low income, and students of color, implementing civic and social competencies and addressing needed services in the community.
The Success Coach will do this by:
Meeting with undergraduate college students regularly (weekly or biweekly) to discuss academic and personal goals and help monitor their progress
Connect students with campus and community based resources for any specific questions or concerns they are experiencing, including academic tutoring, financial aid, mental health, disability services, etc.
The College Success coach will focus on intervention strategies and peer mentoring support for various academic and non-academic needs to help improve retention and graduation rates of first generation, low income, and students of color.
The AmeriCorps position is an 11 month position. It is funded from AmeriCorps and has living allowance of $22,500 as well as an education award of $6895.
