Job description: PURPOSE OF POSITION



To perform instructional duties in the absence of the teacher.



QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS



Required Qualifications



High School diploma or high school equivalency certificate.



NM Substitute Teaching License.



Must be 21 years of age for grades 9-12.



Completion of substitution training workshop(s) and online trainings.



Preferred Experience



Minimum of three years of successful experience as classroom teacher in a



secondary level school.

Ability to deliver lesson plan which stimulates and motivates students to learn.

Effective communication skills with students, parents and the general public.



Good oral and written communication skills.

Desired Knowledge



Basic knowledge, understanding, and respect for the Navajo language, history, and culture.



Appreciation of the philosophy of student's residential and day school experience.



Navajo/Indian preference:



Consideration for employment will be given to Navajo, American Indian or Alaskan Tribal member with the required documentation including the necessary qualifications to meet the minimum requirements of the position. The Navajo/Indian preference law shall apply in all aspects of the position.



EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION



The position is placed on the approved NPS Professional Salary Schedule.



TERM OF EMPLOYMENT



Salary and work calendar established yearly by budget and salary scale.

Primary: Dean of Instruction



RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


  • Follow instructional lesson plan left by the teacher.

  • Maintain classroom management for a safe environment.

  • Follow the Code of Ethics.

  • Be a good role model for the students.

  • Work as a member of the school team.

  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with staff, parents and students.

  • Keep all information confidential.

  • Be prompt and courteous.

  • Dress and act professionally.

  • Accept responsibility as deemed necessary by the Dean of Instruction.

EVALUATION



Will be evaluated in accordance with the Navajo Preparatory School Board policies and procedures.
