This is a 50% FTE position offered through the Urban@UW Program in the College of Built Environments at the University of Washington. The purpose of this position is to assist and support the operationalization of the vision, mission, and goals of Urban@UW: to build more sustainable, just, resilient, and healthy urban places and communities.



Position Complexities:

The position will engage with stakeholders inside and outside of the university, and support collaborative research, teaching and other efforts in line with Urban@UW's mission.



Position Dimensions and Impact to the University:

The position includes administrative, communications, project management, and strategy dimensions. This position will support the University's mission of being #1 in public impact, through supporting Urban@UW as one of the many UW centers building collaborations for impact.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Administration: (80%)


  • Work with Faculty Director, the External Advisory Board, Steering Committee, and other key stakeholders to define and refine the vision, mission, values, goals, and strategies of Urban@UW.



  • Lead strategic communications efforts of Urban@UW as aligned with our mission and values, including co-defining strategies and leading implementation of social media and website, community forum/listserv management, press relations, content development and design, and events.

- Regularly post to the Urban@UW website

- Regularly update the Urban@UW calendar

- Regularly publish Urban@UW ?newsletter? on the AllUrban listserv

- Regularly post to Urban@UW social media accounts

- Maintain AllUrban listserv

- Maintain website content, including inventories, events, and other pages

- Work with CBE-IT to maintain website functionality

- Work with Faculty Director to update communications strategies and plans

  • Ensure accountability to stakeholders, including the Steering Committee, External Advisory Board, Affiliates and Fellows, student assistants, community partners, and collaborators across campus, and oversee units by working with Director to provide transparent and consistent communications and reporting.



  • Attend to logistical needs of the program. Work with CBE to maintain office space and supplies, administrative and fiscal needs, hiring and managing students and staff, and other administrative support as needed.

- Assist in facilitating meetings with and communication between the director, advisory committee, and steering committee



Event Planning: (10%)

  • Collaboratively design and implement events and activities hosted by Urban@UW, including workshops, invited speakers, symposia, seminars, luncheons, and other place-based efforts



  • Support the director in managing the budgets of Urban@UW for both internally and externally funded projects and its administration. Work with the Faculty Director and CBE fiscal team to track expenses, assist partners in disbursement and reimbursement, and adhere to UW fiscal policies and procedures.



  • Assist with fundraising efforts, such as developing fundraising materials, connecting with UW advancement and donors and foundations, and proposal development for projects and the program.

Research and Collaboration: (10%)

  • Assist in building and facilitating collaborative research sponsored by Urban@UW, including defining and setting expectations, providing input for design, ensuring logistical/financial support, facilitating daily to weekly progress, providing regular check-in points, eliciting evaluation measures, and providing a transparent and welcoming support structure for partners.



  • Collaborate in fielding, assessing, and participating in relevant partnerships offered by other individuals, entities, or events on campus or in the larger community. Work with the Director to identify opportunities; clarify expectations, relevance, and feasibility for our involvement; ensure appropriate recognition for efforts in the collaboration; and follow up to strengthen partnerships for the future.



  • Support the development and implementation of Urban@UW's evaluation strategy, including aligning evaluation with Urban@UW's vision, goals, and strategy, gathering data to inform metrics of evaluation, and assisting in the iterative incorporation of evaluation results into the direction and activities of Urban@UW

- Track daily to annual activities of Urban@UW for incorporation into program evaluation and iterative strategy refinement



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors degree in a related field



  • 2 or more years of experience to include program management and communications, including online platforms as well as in-person events

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.



ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with supporting cross-disciplinary and/or cross-sector research



  • Understanding of or interest in urban-related scholarship, issues, and practice

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Financial or budget management experience



  • Experience managing a program in academia



  • Experience writing grant proposals and other fundraising materials



  • Degree in an urban-related field
