Job Description:

On behalf of the Research Foundation of the State University of New York, the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) at SUNY Cobleskill is looking to hire a Youth Advocates at the Schoharie Jr/Sr High School in Schoharie, NY (Schoharie County). Employment is not affiliated with the State of New York or the State University of New York. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private, not-for-profit entity that administers research projects for SUNY campuses (http://www.rfsuny.org). The Liberty Partnerships Program at SUNY Cobleskill is a New York State Education Department grant-funded dropout prevention program serving youth in grades 6 through 12, and their families, in 7 school districts within the Schoharie, Delaware, and Otsego counties. This LPP partners with SUNY Cobleskill and the Research Foundation of SUNY to administer this grant. LPP strives to ensure that program participants graduate from high school and enter post-secondary education and/or the workforce as highly competent young adults.

A Youth Advocate delivers services in the areas of academics, social and emotional development, life skills, goal setting, mentoring, leadership, and college and career readiness. A Youth Advocate represents LPP in the school building and larger district, interacting with district personnel, understanding and adhering to district policies, and advocating for LPP youth and families in the district. Delivery of services happens within one-on-one or small groups during the school day in a LPP-designated classroom. Occasional evening or weekend activities may occur. A Youth Advocate engages with parents/guardians, refers youth and families to appropriate services, adheres to NYS mandated reporter policies and SUNY Cobleskill's Child Protection Policies, and maintains confidentiality.

Responsibilities include: tutoring, mentoring, assisting with homework and test prep, chaperoning field trips, goal setting, the use of social and emotional assessment tools, keeping accurate records, submitting data in a timely manner, attending staff meetings and professional development, coordinating delivery of services with LPP and district staff, and any other tasks that may be necessary to meet the goals and objectives of this LPP as well as the individual students and families it serves. This position reports directly to the LPP Project Director.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and 1+ years of work experience with adolescents

Preferred Qualifications: 1+ years of work experience in a middle or high school setting

Additional Information:

Salary: $16.50-$17.30/hr.

Scheduled days of the week: Monday - Friday

Weekly hours: 32 - 35 hours/week

Length of Assignment: September - June (10-month position; renews every September)
