Job title: Tutor - AVID

Company: West Ada School District

Job description: The AVID Elective is a college prep course that takes students that have the individual determination to work hard and be successful in rigorous coursework. They learn strategies that will help them on the road to college and in life.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Two days a week, our AVID Elective classes run tutorials with the help of tutors. Tutorials provide the opportunity for students to present questions they're confused about to a group of their peers. Their group members then help them figure out their point of confusion through inquiry based questioning. As an AVID tutor, your role is more of a "facilitator" than that of a tutor. You'll facilitate a group of about 7 students and encourage them to ask questions to the presenter to get them to think about the answer. AVID Tutoring is not what you typically think of when you?re thinking of tutoring. You don't teach as an AVID tutor, you encourage the students to discuss, question and collaborate within their group.
