Job description: Overview
College Tutors of Indiana is an approved Indiana Learns Learning Partner and are seeking experienced tutors/teachers who would like to join our team to tutor qualified students at Butler Lab School 60. The purpose of this program is to help students close learning gaps and gain proficiency in Math and ELA , grades 3-8. (Proficiency means opportunity, and that is why we love love to tutor). Tutoring will take place at Butler Lab School # 60 before school at 8am and/or after school at 4:15pm. (Online tutoring will also be offered but most families prefer tutoring to take place in-person at the school.)
Schedule and Wages
Tutors will select their own availability but expectation is that tutors are available at least two mornings or afternoons/week and that availability remains consistent throughout the school-year. There will be no tutoring on Friday afternoons.
Starting pay is $30/hour for certified teachers and $25/hour for non-certified teachers. Pay increases for sessions with more than one student (maximum three students per session).
Each tutor on our team shares the belief that nearly all students are capable of proficiency, and that the right tutor can help students close proficiency gaps, improve grades while boosting confidence...and:
- Has a strong work ethic and demonstrates a high level of professionalism.
- Is consistently reliable.
- Provides students with academic assistance and guidance to students, serves as a role model to students.
- Plans and prepares for each tutoring session using student material as a guide.
- Can maintain a consistent schedule each semester. (This is a flexible position with availability chosen by the tutor, but maintaining a consistent schedule each semester, based on your chosen availability, is important).
- Evaluates student progress toward goals and determines appropriate courses of action .
- Submits session notes for work within 24 hours of completion of session.
- Competent in at least one of the core subject areas: Math or Language Arts, grades 3-8.
- Critical Thinking: maintains good judgment, time management, trustworthiness, and responsibility. Can evaluate student understanding and use appropriate teaching methods.
- Communication Skills: ability to summarize tutoring sessions, including topics covered, challenges, and recommendations for students.
- Interpersonal Skills ? can build rapport with student, parents, family members; able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Previous or current teaching experience.
- Is available to complete the entire semester.
- Is available to tutor on-premises at Butler Lab School # 60 (3330 North Pennsylvania, Indianapolis) at 8am and/or 4:15pm, a minimum of two weekdays/week.
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
