Job title: PreK Educational Technician (full time, 1.0 FTE) - PATHS

Job description: Educational Technician III is needed for PPS public Pre-K classroom located at Portland Arts & Technology High School (PATHS). Responsibilities include implementing lesson plans, engaging with children through play, maintaining the classroom environment, providing positive behavior and guidance, and communicating with parents. The individual selected will work directly with the PPS Pre-K teacher and collaborate with the PATHS Career in Education instructor. Experience with pre-kindergarten-aged children preferred. PATHS is a Career and Technical Education Center that provides high school students with opportunities to acquire 21st-century academic, creative, and technical skills needed for entry into the global workforce and/or postsecondary education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents, or employees.
  • Ability to calculate accurately.
  • Ability to calculate accurately ratio and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to interact with staff, students, parents, and other in an open, friendly, business-like manner.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Approval as an Educational Technician III by the Maine Department of Education.In the alternative, Maine provisional or professional teacher certification.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a college degree that includes nine credit hours related to an education field such as behavior management or classroom strategies, and to candidates who have at least one year of experience working with students in structured situations.
