Essential Job Duties
The Department of Performing Arts and Technology (PA&T) seeks applicants for a renewable, full-time non-tenure track Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor position beginning in the Fall 2024 semester. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong teaching, research, and evaluation skills.
Primary responsibilities include teaching an estimated nine credit hours per semester with a focus on dance science and somatics classes. Additional responsibilities will include departmental and university service, as well as maintaining professional research or creative activity within areas of expertise.
Other Responsibilities
Teaching courses from the dance and somatics curriculums will be the main focus. Creative activity or research appropriate to the area of expertise as well as service are expected.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- This position requires a terminal degree in Dance or a related field, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience. Degree must be completed prior to August 2024.
- Candidates must have expertise in teaching several of the following courses: dance anatomy or kinesiology, research methods, and somatics (Pilates, yoga, and/or other somatic practices).
- Candidates should be active scholars and researchers in the dance science field and have experience mentoring student researchers.
- An MFA or PhD in Dance (or equivalent) is preferred.
- It is preferred that candidates have expertise in teaching one or more of the following courses/areas: Laban and Bartenieff studies, Pilates, yoga, dance technology, screendance, tap dance, ballet, pedagogy, safe practices in dance, Native American dances, or dances from Asia, South or Central America or their diasporic forms.
