Job description: POSITION TITLE: 4TH GRADE TEACHING ASSISTANT (One year, grant funded position) - Mountain View School

SUMMARY: Assist in classroom, small group and individual pupil instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Assist students with instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher
  • Assist teacher in maintaining a positive, focused classroom environment
  • Assist teacher with instructional activities
  • Conduct small group instruction as directed by the teacher, with groups of students to provide literacy and math support
  • Conduct intervention groups
  • Conduct one on one instructional sessions as directed by the teacher, with students that need additional support
  • Monitor, assist, and review based on Lexia/ ST platforms
  • Provide substitute coverage, as needed
  • Escort students from room to room
  • Toileting students as needed
  • Includes working with students regarding their general education and special education needs
  • Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP/ 504/ SRBI plans
  • Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch
  • Copy materials for instructional purposes
  • Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork
  • Alert teachers to problems that may be observed
  • Supervise students during assessments
  • Ensure classroom safety standards are met at all times
  • Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The teaching assistant is responsible for the safety and well-being of students in his/her charge.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelors Degree

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to push items of fifty (50) pounds, such as pushing children on a bike or wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. When doing heavier lifting, the employee should do so with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.

The noise level in the work environment is typical of classrooms having school children and is a standard acceptable level for this environment. This employee will work throughout the school building, on school grounds and occasionally off campus. The aide is responsible for the safety and well being of students in his/her charge.

Salary: $28,426/yr. Benefits available Date of Service: 2023-2024 School Year (Alliance Grant Funded - 1 Year Position) - Start date ASAP

Hours: 8:35am - 3:35pm (6.5 hours/day)
