GENERAL STATEMENT
The Assistant Program Coordinator is responsible for working with students, parents, teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, athletic directors, school administrators and the program director to coordinate an academic support program aimed at fostering positive student athlete development and growth academically, athletically and socially-emotionally. The position is designed to work both during and after school hours. This role blends the recruitment of athletes for support services and assist with academic support and collaboration between all stakeholders as student athletes progress towards academic success.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as a caring and responsible adult mentor to provide academic and social emotional support
- Monitor student progress in academic classes, working with teachers and guidance to provide targeted interventions through tutoring. Collecting data to evaluating the efficacy of the interventions at key stages during the year, reporting progress to key stakeholders.
- Build a positive inclusive learning environment where student athletes want to come during unstructured time to work towards their academic goals.
- Communicating with parents, coaches and the Athletic Director regarding student-athlete attendance and academic progress throughout each marking period
- Demonstrated experience in working with the targeted population of high school aged students. An understanding of working with diverse student populations with limited resources
- Ability to work during and after the school day including some
- Proven ability to build relationships across a broad range of people
- Strong communication skills verbally and written
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to meet reporting deadlines
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, PowerSchool, Facebook)
- Motivated self-starter
- Prior tutoring and/or teaching experience
- Experience working with young people
- Spanish, Haitian or French oral proficiency, preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to motivate and encourage students to improve their academic performance
- Some college preferred
