Job Summary:

The Learning Specialist Coordinator is responsible for implementing academic support and services for students in the areas of effective learning strategies and to offer leadership and coordination of at least one of our support initiatives (e.g. teaching, Supplemental Instruction, virtual resources). As a Learning Specialist the position provides direct service to students through individualized academic counseling with a focus on learning, time management, and organization strategies; advising and mentoring to special student populations; instruction through online and face-to-face support courses; content specific tutoring; college transitions; navigating the university system; and self-advocacy. As a Coordinator the position administers, coordinates, monitors, and assesses a center-wide program and/or initiative. Coordination could include supervision and training of undergraduate and graduate staff.

Duties/Physical Demands:

Provide individual academic counseling/coaching for students experiencing academic difficulty.
Teach study strategies courses and other support courses as needed.
Manage daily operations for one or more office wide support initiatives. This includes troubleshooting and resolving conflicts.
Where appropriate, hire, train and supervise student staff.
Participate in professional and campus activities and research related to academic support and learning strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in education, educational psychology, student affairs, counseling, social work, or related field; AND two years of experience.

Strong skills to effectively communicate information to multiple audiences (i.e. students, faculty, parents, and other helping professionals).
Predisposition toward stewardship and collaboration, within and across the Division of Student Life.
