THE POSITION
Below is a summary of the basic function of the position and scope of responsibilities. Under the direction of the Expanded Learning Program, will provide assistance and tutoring to students in the after school program and will support leading the after school staff in engaging academic and enriching activities. This will provide opportunities for students to develop and strengthen academic, physical, and social skills. Additional responsibilities include monitoring student attendance, check-in/check-out procedures, and the program requirements.
THE CANDIDATE
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent. Requires two years of college (48 units) or pass the District's assessment that demonstrates knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction or pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). An Associate's degree is highly desirable.
Experience: Some experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults in an organized setting. Some experience using computers, software and other technology tools and resources relevant to providing academic and clerical support. Experience working with individuals with special developmental needs is desirable. Experience working in a lead capacity highly desirable, preferably in an educational environment.
THE DETAILS
TESTING INFORMATION: The examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the .
Step 1: Application screening(pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. An initial application screening is tentatively scheduled for June 26th, 2023. Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meets the needs of the department, so it is essential that applicants provide as much detail as possible and answer all parts of the application, including work experience and the supplemental questionnaire. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the qualification appraisal interview. (If applicants do not possess 48 units of college or an associates degree or higher, they will be required to take and pass a proficiency exam).
Step 2: Written Exam if applicable, (required if you do not possess a minimum of 48 college units) proficiency test, applicants will be tested on Math, English and the ability to assist with students. This will be offered on going.
Step 3: Performance Exam (pass/fail) tentatively scheduled for the week of July 3rd, 2023. Applicants will be required to work through exercises using Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Google Suite which simulate the tasks an After School Paraeducator Liaison is expected to perform day-to-day. Applicants must pass the performance examination to move forward to the next step, (qualifications appraisal interview).
Step 4: Qualification Appraisal Interview (weighted 100%) is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 10th, 2023. Applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.
ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION
New Hires - Initial Salary Placement
The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria:
- Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification)
- Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position)
Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years.
Promotional and/or transfer candidates will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations.
Education Incentives
All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a college degree which is related to their classification and is above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification.
AA/AS = 2.50%
BA/BS = 2.75%
MA/MS = 3.00%
Ed.D./Ph.D/JD = 3.25%

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (Upon Offer of Employment)
- Employment Verification: The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that the District obtain documentation from every individual who is employed which verifies identity and authorizes his/her right to work in the United States.
- Individuals selected for employment are required to submit to a tuberculosis risk assessment, and, if risk factors are identified, would then be required to submit to a tuberculosis examination to determine freedom from tuberculosis.
- The District reserves the right to require a job related physical examination and satisfactory results from such an exam.
- Fingerprinting: State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted. AB1610 prohibits employment until the Department of Justice completes its obligations regarding the arrest and conviction information, and from employing a person who has been convicted of a violent or serious felony, as defined.

Expected salary: $20.63 - 25.75 per hour
