Job description:


  • Assists with the administration, coordination, and supervision of Graduate Business Services. This includes advising students, program development and implementation, data collection/interpretation, strategic outreach, and implementation of advising campaigns, preparation of reports, and meeting program objectives. Requires coordination of academic advising activities that proactively engage students in ways that help them achieve their educational pursuits. Reports to College of Business Senior Director of Advising. Work is performed under minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



Coordination of Campaigns/Outreach:

  • Develops, implements, and manages complex graduate advising initiatives designed to support student success/retention outcomes for the college.

  • This includes strategic outreach and implementation of advising campaigns across the graduate student population for the College of Business (COB).

  • Lead retention and continuing graduate student registration efforts for twelve graduate programs.

  • Maintains and publishes the Two year Plan in coordination with department chairs.

Supervision/Leadership:

  • Provides direct supervision of the MBA Advisor and GBS support staff, accountable for performance of team, and assists with their onboarding and ongoing training.

  • Speaks to various constituencies representing Graduate Advising for the College of Business, academic advising community (e.g., students, advisors, faculty, administrators, etc.) and external customers regarding the advising process, orientation, and other activities.

  • Provides support and leadership to ten Graduate Program Advisors. Chairs COB Graduate Scholarship Committee.

Assessment:

  • Collects and interprets data, creates reports, and offers ongoing graduate program suggestions for improvement.

  • Participates in data-informed analyses and decision-making processes with Senior Director of Advising and/or executive team.

  • Analyzes COB graduate student data to address areas of concern and work with advisors to develop courses of action.

Academic Advising:

  • Shares in the direct advising duties for a small diverse subpopulation, drop-ins, and/or serves as back-up for graduate advisors as needed.

  • Serves as point of contact for ten Graduate Program Advisors.

  • CoB programs representative with internal and external constituents.

Policies and Procedures:

  • Maintain a clear understanding of all applicable federal, state, and University policies and procedures.

  • Keep abreast of relevant academic programs and support services such as counseling and tutoring within a College and University and provide appropriate referrals to students.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field with three (3) to four (4) years of advising students.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field with seven (7) to ten (10) years of advising students & leading student success programs.

  • Ability to safeguard confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or business master's degree from an AACSB, EQIS or AMBA accredited institution. Have extensive professional background in business and/or industry.

  • Experience working at a college or university providing direct academic advising assistance to a caseload of students. Experience hiring, training, and supervising staff.

  • Demonstrated success overseeing outreach campaigns and conducting proactive advising.

  • Knowledge of Federal, state, and local policies and procedures governing academic advising functions.

  • Resources provided by academic advising associations such as NACADA and TEXAAN. A working knowledge and ability to use the University Catalog is essential.

  • Skill in written and verbal interpersonal communication; organizing information; problem solving; adhering to deadlines and time management; taking initiative; outreach; and navigating student information systems.

  • Ability to work professionally, collaboratively, and independently; and proficiently use Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint.
