GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Under the general direction of the Dean of Academic and Student Development, this academic management position will coordinate tutorial and academic support services for the college and will work closely and collaboratively with deans, faculty, and staff on both campuses (Lynn and Danvers). The Director of Academic Success will oversee the deployment and use of tutor and academic support tracking software to provide communications between academic support staff (Coordinators, Professional Tutors, Peer, Tutors, etc.) and instructors, to collect data related to tutoring and academic support sessions/services, and to analyze data to refine and improve these services overall. The Director of Academic Success will also oversee the deployment of Supplemental Instruction (SI) tutors. This includes appropriate training for SI leaders and the faculty who use them in their classes. Finally, the Director will oversee the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutor training program and its certification.

This position will direct and provide operational oversight for tutoring and academic support/success areas as assigned. This includes, but is not limited to: scheduling staff, providing training, evaluating tutoring/academic support activities and coordinating communications to promote services. In addition, the Director will work collaboratively with the Academic and Student Success division to ensure that cohesive academic support is provided to all students, including remote and online learners.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provide strategic and long-range vision and planning for academic success and support services (tutoring, academic coaching, mentorship programs, etc.) under direction of the Dean of Academic and Student Development and in consultation with departments across the College.
  • Oversee the day to day operations of tutoring and academic support as assigned and coordinate remote, online and on campus tutoring and academic support services.
  • Manage and supervise multiple academic success locations (Lynn, Danvers, and remote), programs, and staff, including related budgets, as appropriate.
  • Create and build a Peer Mentorship Program and an Academic Coaching Program.
  • Provide academic coaching and tutoring to help students set realistic goals, develop academic plans, and to improve study and classroom habits.
  • Create and build a Supplemental Instruction Program (SI) to embed SI leaders in high DFW courses.
  • Organize and centralize college-wide tutoring efforts (TRIO, SUCCESS Fund Initiatives, STEM, etc.).
  • Prepare informational materials and marketing strategies to promote tutoring and academic success services to students and faculty.
  • Manage the hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of Coordinators, Professional Tutors, Peer Tutors, and other academic success personnel as required.
  • Provide training and regular professional development for tutors.
  • Implement procedures and processes to ensure quality support services for both on-site and remote learners.
  • Provide workshops and develop/distribute materials to support student success.
  • Manage and oversee the Tutoring and Academic Support physical spaces.
  • In collaboration with Institutional Research and Navigate, assess student's academic progress and success and report results.
  • At the direction of the Dean of Academic and Student Development, collaborate with Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, and Academic Student Development to support retention initiatives.
  • Collaborate with divisional Academic Deans to promote tutoring and academic support services effectiveness for various classes, especially DFW courses.
  • Oversee the College's CRLA tutor training program, including coordination of CRLA training sessions and maintenance of records for students completing CRLA training and certification.
  • Obtain and maintain CRLA membership and certification Create Level I CRLA certification materials (currently the College is certified only for Level I).
  • Plan and run the official CRLA certification ceremony twice annually.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required.
  • Participate in staff meetings and college committees as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Assistant Dean of Academic and Student Development

SUPERVISION GIVEN: Directly supervise two Coordinator positions, a Clerk position, and any other employees assigned to this position. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with College policies, Collective Bargaining Agreements and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, and taking corrective action with employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Education, English or other relevant field.
  • Two years of full-time experience tutoring and/or two years of full-time experience teaching.
  • Previous Tutoring/Learning Center/Learning Commons management experience.
  • Knowledge of CRLA certification process, regulations, and tutor training.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, with individuals and before groups, with particular emphasis on interactions with faculty, staff, students, and community members.
  • Must be able to build relationships across campus with faculty, staff, and students and foster positive collaborative community partnerships.
  • Established ability to work with and advocate for traditionally underserved students and to support faculty and staff in meeting these needs with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Competence in leadership, planning, assessment, and budgeting.
  • A commitment to quality student-centered service and student success.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft products, Banner software and Navigate experience are a plus.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
