Job description: POSITION: ACTING SUPERVISOR OF FINE & PERFORMING ARTS AND GIFTED AND TALENTED (Grades Prek-12)
LOCATION: Administration Building QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Valid New Jersey Supervisor?s Certificate and New Jersey Standard Certificate in Music, Art or Drama.
2. Minimum of Master?s degree from an accredited college or university.
3. New Jersey Standard Supervisor?s certificate.
4. New Jersey Standard Instructional certificate.
5. Supervisory Experience.
6. Knowledge of and experience in Gifted and Talented Curriculum development.
7. Demonstrated success in facilitating professional learning and problem solving.
8. Demonstrated success in working with diverse learners in an urban center.
9. Knowledge of how students learn and knowledge of best Instructional program practices for all students.
10. Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with other professional staff on instructional improvement issues, particularly for gifted and academically advanced students.
11. Demonstrates the ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, community groups and organizations.
12. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

DUTIES: 1. Develops and implements Fine & Performing Arts and Gifted & Talented programs.
2. Ensure that the academic and social emotional needs of Fine & Performing Arts and Gifted and Talented students are met.
3. Ensure a Gifted and Talented identification process that provides equal access for students of poverty and English language learners.
4. Display and foster positive attitudes and support toward Gifted and
Talented education in general based upon knowledge and understanding of the educational needs of Gifted and Talented students.
5. Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of student identification, programming services, and curriculum, instructional strategies and assessment for PreK-12 Fine & Performing Arts and Gifted and Talented education.
  • Supervises teachers.
  • Observes and evaluates personnel.
  • Initiates and manages implementation of curriculum evaluation and performance assessments for Fine & Performing Arts and Gifted & Talented.
  • Visits classrooms and assists teachers in improving existing strengths and in overcoming problem related to their teaching performance.
  • Keep abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction for Fine & Performing Arts and Gifted & Talented initiatives, and provide leadership in determining the appropriateness for inclusion in the district?s educational program and professional development.
  • Work with teachers and administrators to monitor progress toward curriculum goals and objectives, reporting and data.
  • Consult and communicate with other educators, parents, Fine & Performing Arts and Gifted & Talented parent organizations about all aspects of gifted education and student needs.
  • Collaborate with external consultants, other school districts, private foundations, higher education institutions, appropriate professional organizations and other resources providing professional growth opportunities for staff, and opportunities for students.
  • Collaboratively assume responsibility for reviewing and evaluating results of school and district wide data to influence Gifted & Talented programming decisions.
  • Develop a working knowledge of state and federal legislation and monitoring process as it pertains to Gifted & Talented Education.
  • Works with teachers and administrators to integrate district and community resources into daily instruction.
  • Forms a Gifted & Talented Educational Services (G.A.T.E.S.) Steering Committee.
  • Coordinate enrichment activities of Fine & Performing Arts and Gifted & Talented.
  • Assist in determining missions, goals, objectives, staffing requirements, and infrastructure needs for Fine & Performing Arts and Gifted & Talented students.
  • Assist in obtaining financial and human resources necessary to address the education needs of Fine & Performing Arts and Gifted & Talented students. This may include grant writing to benefit funding for gifted education..
  • Performs other duties and related responsibilities as directed by the Assistant Superintendent.

TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) Month Position
