Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor - Boca Raton, FL.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate administrator of a State university.

Responsible for managing all Biological Sciences teaching laboratory functions and for formulating and recommending policies and procedures to effectively administer such programs inclusive of designing, developing, and conducting special studies to innovate curricular practices in laboratory in alignment with core and service courses.

Responsible for interpreting and implementing academic support services policies and procedures and for recommending and implementing new and improved programs to effectively manage academic support services administration and curricular / teaching practices.

Responsible for supervising, training, and mentoring lab personnel and Teaching Assistants involved in specific scientific labs/academic programs.

Responsible for conducting, participating, and/or administering training and/or cooperative programs and projects.

Responsible for producing and/or revising lab teaching materials as well as administrative and safety protocols including but not limited to presentations, videos, online quizzes, exams, lab manuals, safety manual, syllabi, and all other content as needed.

Responsible for establishing and maintaining relations with university, system-wide academic programs, and/or outside agencies to assure coordination of effort and exchange or information as appropriate.

Responsible for the implementation and oversight of emergency, safety, and compliance protocols.

May serve as liaison between the program/service office and outside agencies and the general public.

Serving as the Biological Sciences lab supervisory and representational lead responsible for the oversight of all assigned personnel, labs, and related operations.

Advising academic program committees on related policies and procedures.

Creating and managing laboratory and teaching schedules as well as TAs assignments.

Providing laboratory emergency and safety training for TAs and laboratory students.

Regulating equipment utilization, materials distribution, inventory, and sharing of supplies; assisting in the development of guidelines for graduate students and TAs.

Implementing and advising on policies and procedures for the laboratory courses, including lab manuals and materials preparation, including but not limited to syllabi, grading criteria, experimental protocols, proctoring, exam preparation, attendance policies, schedules, etc.

Works collaboratively with faculty and other lab personnel to develop new teaching lab content, including experiments, lesson plans, and teaching manuals.

Setting up online components of supervised courses in Canvas; directing teaching assistants in the instruction of lab courses, training graduate teaching assistants on laboratory protocols, coordinating exam proctors for lecture exams and lab practical exams; and maintaining academic standards in lab protocols and assessments.

Reviewing curriculum, updating laboratories to adapt to new technologies, creating study manual for students enrolled in Biology courses as needed/assigned.

Developing and supporting the use of technology in the teaching laboratories.

Preparing and maintaining laboratories in accordance with health and safety regulations and for conducting corrective steps to ensure all lab spaces always meet compliance standards.

Hiring, training, and supervising all lab personnel and conducting weekly meetings to manage expectations and standards.

Attending teaching and/or curriculum development trainings and conferences to stay abreast of new teaching approaches and technologies.

Helping develop internal and external funding applications in support of department?s curricular mission.

Partnering with faculty in the development of new Biology courses.

Serving as Instructor of Record for A&P, Biodiversity, Bioprinciples, and Life Science labs, and/or as needed.

Assisting Department Chair, Program Director(s), and/or Department Faculty with special projects.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.

Preferred Qualification:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Biology.

Salary: $58,240 per year.
