Summary/Objective
- The Learning Services Program, a program for first year students with learning disabilities, is looking for a Writing Mentor for the academic year.
- The Writing Mentor provides individual assistance to students with learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder via weekly one-on-one meetings.
- The Writing Mentor will work with assigned students on an individual basis to review academic writing, offer instruction, make recommendations for improving writing skills, and proofread and edit students? work.
- This position works under general supervision.
- Training and supervision will be provided.
Part-Time, 15 hours/week.
The position will start in early October and ends in May.
Salary Range
- $19.00/hour - $22.00/hour; commensurate with experience.
1-3 years of related experience.
Bachelor's degree required. Majors in English, Literature, or other writing-related field strongly preferred.
Strong academic or research writing experience.
Experience/training teaching or tutoring writing, preferably to individuals with learning disabilities or diverse learning needs.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, such as student records.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, patience working with others, and attention to detail.
Preferred Education and Experience
Master's degree preferred but not required.
Familiarity with typical research tools and resources.
Experience teaching or tutoring writing at the college level
Familiarity with online learning platforms (Canvas, Blackboard, etc)
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Candidates will be expected to provide a writing sample, preferably of academic research writing.
