Job description: Department?
Provost N-12 Education, UCPE, Compliance, and Faculty Governance

About the Department

? The University of Chicago is distinguished among its peers by its firm commitment to rigorous inquiry in all its forms. Among its many strengths, the University operates numerous entities and initiatives focused on excellent elementary and secondary education. These range from faculty research and scholarship and units and programs that focus on urban school improvement and student success; to the University of Chicago Laboratory School; to programs that support the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) in various ways, including the Neighborhood Schools Program where undergraduate students serve in schools and afterschool centers as tutors, teaching assistants, administrative interns, pre-schools specialists, and technology coordinators.

Central to the University?s commitment to public education is the UChicago Charter School (UCCS). UCCS began in 1998 with a group of committed educators, who, working in partnership with the University of Chicago, founded the North Kenwood/Oakland Campus, a prekindergarten to fifth grade school. UCCS opened its second elementary campus, Donoghue, in 2005. UCCS? first middle school and high school campus was established in 2006 for students from grades six to 12 at the Woodlawn Campus. Today, the three UChicago Charter campuses, and their 200+ staff members, offer over 1300 neighborhood children on Chicago?s South Side a pre-K through grade 12 path to college. All three of UCCS? school buildings are within 10 minutes of the University of Chicago campus. In accordance with charter law, UCCS is proud to accept neighborhood students by lottery wherever demand exceeds supply.

The University?s Office of the Provost provides academic and budgetary oversight of the University?s divisions, schools, and various centers and institutes, and supervises the University?s pre-K-12 public and private schools, UCCS and the Laboratory School.
