Job description: The Food Science and Nutrition Department in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a full-time academic year lecturer in Foodservice and Nutrition Systems Management for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 academic years starting September 16, 2024 and ending June 13, 2026.
The candidate's primary teaching contribution will be in the areas of Management of Foodservice and Nutrition Systems and Culinology? with an emphasis on quantity food planning and preparation to meet specific nutritional requirements/guidelines for various foodservice facilities, including healthcare facilities, large corporate institutions and schools.
Courses taught depend on student demand with the successful candidate having expertise in the above areas that would translate to one or more of the following courses: FSN 121: Fundamentals of Food, FSN 321: Contemporary Issues in Food Choice and Preparation, FSN 343: Foodservice Operations I, FSN 344: Foodservice Operations II, and/or FSN 426: Nutrition and Foodservice Systems Management. The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences recently completed a multidisciplinary building of $125 million that will benefit this position with seven food and nutrition research labs, including a culinary suite, a sensory laboratory, two food safety laboratories, and a food chemistry and analytical laboratory.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2022, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $4,530-$6,056
Lecturer B: $5,405-$11,994
Lecturer C: $6,190-$13,172
Lecturer D: $7,794-$13,797

Required Qualifications/Specialized Skills:
- Earned Master's in Nutrition, Food Science, Foodservice or closely related field.
- Evidence of professional experience in related field of expertise.
- Excellent and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the public.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

- RD/RDN credential.
- PhD in Nutrition, Food Science, Foodservice or closely related field.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Food Science and Nutrition Department has 12 full-time faculty, numerous part-time faculty, support staff, and approximately 600 students. FSN offers two majors - Nutrition and Food Science. The department hosts a dynamic and innovative Nutrition program that encourages national as well as international perspectives on teaching and research. The Department has strong connections with the stakeholders in California and research programs are developed in partnership with the Central Coast community and food industries along with commodity boards such as strawberry board. The Nutrition curriculum includes two concentrations: Applied Nutrition and Nutrition Science. The Applied Nutrition concentration is accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and our Culinology? program is Research Chefs Association approved. The Department offers a MS in Nutrition, a MS in Food Science and a Dietetic Internship (DI) program and a MS/DI program.
