Job description: POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) Instructor II provides direct instruction and care, and personalized training to the TLC program participants in compliance with Department of Health (DOH) Waiver Standards and accordance with Lanakila Pacific?s values and program standards. The TLC Instructor II plans and implements daily program activities which enable each participant to achieve their highest level of independence possible and to live and participate as active and contributing members of their communities. Instructors ensure the quality of services provided are consistent with Lanakila Pacific?s mission and values. The TLC Instructor II supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization, upholds, and enforces the guidelines and policies of the organization and demonstrates Lanakila Pacific?s values of teamwork, excellence, achievement, and motivation in all personal interactions and exemplifies Lanakila?s STAR service standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Position Specific Duties
  • Creates and develops course curriculum and teaches it to assigned groups either in person or via an online videoconferencing platform, such as Zoom.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains outcome-driven program activities that are age appropriate, meaningful, and based on the participant?s needs and interests.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains meaningful and outcome-driven community-based activities.
  • Assists participants with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), including toileting, hygiene and grooming, dressing, feeding, eating, etc.
  • Ensures confidentiality of participant records and information.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with participants and their circle of support.
  • Thoroughly completes all required paperwork, reports, and documentation legibly and on time according to program standards.
  • Supervises and supports participants based on their individual needs and outlined in the Individualized Service Plan (ISP).
  • Performs their assigned role for the morning arrival and/or afternoon departure process, acting as a daily program monitor.
  • Acts as a liaison between TLC and the caregiver/circle of support, as assigned.
  • Research community activities and volunteer opportunities to expand community resources.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and proper sanitization of program site, vehicles and other program supplies and are in proper condition at the end of each program day.
  • Assists in the removal of all fire and safety hazards.
  • Addresses and intervenes appropriately in participants? physical and/or mental emergencies.
  • Appropriately responds to emergency situations while remaining calm and professional.
  • Uses Therap Electronic Documentation to maintain participant records.
  • Communicates effectively with all clients, programs/departments, and staff, both orally and in writing; can read and understand written material and can write effectively to meet the job requirements.
Other Duties:
  • Demonstrates cultural competency and the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, and cognitive abilities without bias.
  • Serves as a role model for the staff, participants, and volunteers and works to create a healthful and respectful environment.
  • Follow all safety procedures and practices, and that safeguards and proper safety gear, such as gloves, are used when appropriate.
  • Follows established work rules, standards of conduct, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Performs other related business duties as assigned.
  • Completes training as mandated by organizational policy and TLC requirements.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with confidential information and comply with established policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to gain and possess thorough knowledge of Lanakila Pacific?s programs and seeks ongoing educational opportunities related to the position.
WORKING CONDITIONS/HOURS:
  • Scheduled to work 5 days a week. Monday through Friday 7:30 ? 4:30 pm. 8?hour shift may vary. May be required to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends and holidays to meet operational needs and contract requirements.
  • Indoors, classroom/office setting, outdoors and community-based activities; may travel to other program sites, meeting sites, etc., as required.
EQUIPMENT USE:
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Database, or comparable programs such as online videoconferencing platforms (i.e., Zoom, Google Meets, etc.).
  • Other standard office equipment, i.e., copier, fax.
  • Company vehicle.

  • Ability to deal with difficult people or situations.
  • Ability to plan and organize tasks and possess sufficient flexibility to respond to changing situations; requires ability to continuously repeat instructions and remain calm.
  • Use considerable initiative and exercise good judgment.

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people and at times in demanding situations.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative and productive working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Education: High School Diploma or Certificate of Completion or equivalent.
  • Experience: One-year documented experience working with ID/DD or the elderly population.
  • Clearance/Certification: Must maintain the following clearances/certification: 1) annual TB clearance, 2) current First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Certification (Obtain on the job), 3) Criminal Background check, 4) Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, 5) Child Protective Services check/Adult Protective Service check, 6) Fieldprint Fingerprinting, 7) List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE).
  • Valid driver?s license and clean driving abstract.
Preferred:
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of progressively responsible work experience teaching, coaching, or facilitating, and working with individuals with a variety of disabilities or similar populations.
