Villa Academy seeks a full-time Science Teacher (Middle School) - Long Term Substitute to join its team beginning November 27, 2023 and ending February 16. 2024. This substitute would be responsible for teaching three sections of science across Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade, one section of Eighth Grade math, and Sixth Grade advisory.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic, student-centered individual eager to share their experience, enthusiasm, and expertise in independent school Middle Grades leadership. They will inspire students, faculty/staff, and families to learn and grow, and will enjoy working within a team setting of shared ideas and constructive feedback. They will lead with great initiative and cultural humility and have keen problem-solving and communication skills.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach three sections of science and one section of math across Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade.

Support the development of the whole child through the creation of an inclusive classroom that welcomes a diversity of life experiences and learning profiles.

Complete necessary grading and reporting for each student for each marking period,

Collaborate with the Science, Math, and Middle School team to facilitate the creation of a dynamic, inquiry-based classroom.

Advise a group of 10 to 12 Middle School students.

Attend student support, division, and faculty meetings as required.

Assist with student support through various duties (carpool, recess, lunch, etc.)

Be present on campus from 8 AM - 3:45 PM.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor?s degree required.

Strong knowledge of core science and math topics, science and math pedagogy and technology integration.

Experience with effective student management and positive relationship building practices.

Appreciation and enjoyment of middle school students and understanding of their learning and development.

Knowledge and application of differentiated instruction.

A commitment to cultural competence and an understanding of its important role in academic excellence and student preparation. Consistent with our unique history and ethos, Villa Academy is committed to building and fostering a richly diverse and inclusive school community.

Experience with and appreciation for STEAM-focused, interdisciplinary, project-based learning.

Awareness of 21st Century Learning pedagogy.

An ability to use instructional technology effectively, including interactive whiteboards, document cameras, Google Apps for Education, and integrated student information systems.

A willingness and enthusiasm for making Villa?s outdoor spaces an integral part of the curriculum and instruction.

Ability to collaborate with colleagues as part of a professional learning community.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

Anticipated salary is $28.41/hour and this position is not benefits eligible.
