Position Summary The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Director reports to the Provost and is responsible for providing strategic direction of the College?s instructional support programs. The Director is responsible for the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and assessment of core services for learning in a variety of modalities as well as the provision of quality professional development that advances evidence-based organizational learning for faculty, staff, and students. In coordination, with the Office of the Provost, this position will lead the program review process, and the distance education efforts.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee the distance education department, their initiatives, and professional development and provide overall leadership, coordination, and planning for learning management system (LMS) administration, course quality control, instructional designer, and Eagle Tech support.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify, schedule, deliver, and assess academic year programming such as:
  • New Faculty Orientation
  • Procedural Workshops (student advising, grading procedures, tutor training, suicide prevention, etc..)
  • Guest speakers, internal and external presenters
  • Special Topic Workshops, Webinars, and Conferences
  • Professional development for faculty, staff, and students
  • Research and evaluate emerging learning technologies as they apply to instruction, participate in strategic planning, recommend and promote best practices for teaching and learning
  • Offer professional development to meet certification requirements by local area employers
  • Lead the Academic Program Review Process by working with different academic departments, academic support, student services units, and the Office of the Provost in the implementation of the process.
  • Create programming materials and make accessible to in person and remote faculty and staff.
  • Work in tandem with the college?s academic chairs and faculty leadership to enhance faculty effectiveness in the online and physical classrooms
  • Work in tandem with the college?s IT department to oversee the evaluation, recommendation, and integration of relevant new and existing technologies related to online learning, instructional technologies, and user facilities.
  • Maintain open communication with student service departments to ascertain teaching and learning as well as educational programming needs
  • Assist the college in the onboarding of new faculty members and with the professional development opportunities during Convocation.
  • Collaborate with equity and inclusion efforts on campus to translate inclusive initiatives into classroom practice and daily campus operations.
  • Prepare budgets and administer funds for the CTL including development of priorities and guidelines, preparation of program budget, solicitation/review/selection of proposals, supervision of projects and support activities, and evaluation of projects.
  • Develop and complete reports and evaluation of programming and departmental activities.
  • Stay current in faculty education literature and best practices for in person and online instruction
  • Create a physical and virtual space for the CTL
  • Share best practices and tidbits through email, Weekly Eagle, or social media.
  • Collaborate with Title V Project Director to meet El Centro grant goals
  • Adhere to Title V federal guidelines
  • Support the accreditation efforts of the College and the Institutional Accreditation Liaison.
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Master?s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, Communications or a related field from an accredited institution; equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 years of college-level teaching experience
  • Proven experience planning and leading professional development programming
  • Supervisory experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D./Terminal degree
  • 5 years of college-level teaching experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Proven ability to generate and deliver reports that provide useful insight into project details

  • Experience administering complex projects and monitoring budgets
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of a computer;
  • Must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds;
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, balance, crawl and reach for extended periods of time
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is normally performed in a typical office environment.

Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
