Boston Arts Academy, a public high school for the visual and performing arts, is starting its 21st year in September 2018 with 502 students in Grades 9-12. The school was established as a public/private partnership between the Professional Arts Consortium, Inc., (currently Berklee College of Music, the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Emerson College, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Architectural Center, and the New England Conservatory) and the Boston Public Schools. Boston Arts Academy is charged with being a laboratory and a beacon for artistic and academic innovation and prepares a diverse community of aspiring artist-scholar-global citizens to be successful in their college or professional careers and to be engaged members of a democratic society.
Boston Arts Academy seeks an Events Coordinator/Production Manager for the school year 2023-2024. The Production Manager will report to the Artistic Director and will be an integral part of a of the BAA artistic production team as we grow our ability to produce live events in our new state-of-the art spaces that include a 500 seat theater, a black box, a recital hall, two galleries, a recording studio and multiple dance and theater workshop spaces. Working with all arts departments, and in collaboration with the Artistic Director, Admissions Manager, and Technical Director, this role will be responsible for managing the production needs and schedules for all events taking place at Boston Arts Academy, and off-site venues, when applicable. Events include, but are not limited to, theater shows, music concerts, dance performances, fashion shows, gallery openings, admissions events, school assemblies, prom, and major ceremonies.
The Event Coordinator/Production Manager responsibilities include:
- Organize and provide oversight of all production needs for BAA artistic shows.
- Organize production needs for internal events, including graduation, prom, and award ceremonies.
- Assist the Technical Director to monitor all safety procedures to ensure that all productions, exhibitions and performances across the arts are executed safely and to the highest professional standards.
- Work with the admissions manager to support logistics for admissions events.
- Ensure the smooth and efficient running of day-to-day production operations.
- Manage the front of house at all BAA shows, including training/overseeing student ushers and family volunteers.
- Coordinate and oversee the online and in-person ticketing system.
- Education: Bachelors Degree in a related field.
- Strong organizational management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize
- Experience working with teams
- Experience working with young people.
- Broad, basic technical knowledge of theatrical production (lights, sound, stage managment, etc)
- Previous experience in event planning and implementation
- Knowledge of House Management (ticketing, audience engagement, usher training, safety)
- Demonstrated competency with the protocols and procedures for theater safety.
- Competency with software programs, spreadsheets, calendars, deadlines, google, etc
- Commitment to anti-racist practices and working with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
- Ability to work nights and weekends during performance dates. Flexibility in schedule required
- Support the artistic work of BAA's arts faculty and students.
- Ability to problem solve on the spot and respond with tact, diplomacy, and poise
- Ability to represent BAA in all capacities to external audiences at meetings and to work well with a broad range of constituencies.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and execute responsibilities in the face of conflicting priorities with an attention to detail while managing multiple projects
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Experience working with urban youth in educational and arts settings
- Bi-lingual or conversational ability in another language

NOTE: Comprehensive salary, health and dental benefits.
Please note: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223-day work-year will include the 180 days in which the school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or head of schools of the school. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
